Artist: The Open Circle [Greyscale / Crossfade Sounds/ Axaminer / OHM Series / ODrex]

Our 17th Frontier journey comes from Belgian producer Geert Thirry better known as - The Open Circle. We have been big fans of The Open Circle since we discovered his music a few years ago. He is an incredible producer and very versatile artist, who’s music can span from deep ambient soundscapes, to low slung chuggy dub techno all the way up to full dance floor fist pumping Techno. His production is mostly done using a Modular synthesizer and some other hardware. Then Layered textures and evolving rhythms are built to define the signature style with analog warmth and hypnotic depth.  

Geert has been producing music for many years, His first EP was actually released back in 2003 on the UK label ” Lost Language “as a double vinyl. Released under the alias Karada the release was more in the melodic Techno sphere. Since then his style and sound has developed into the deep Dub Techno he is known for today. His productions have been gathering more and more acclaim with his recent release on the legendary Greyscale placing him firmly towards to the top echelons of the Dub Techno world. 

We are honoured to be able to welcome Geert to the Dub Explorations and Frontier family and look forward to hearing his future productions.

The Frontier 017 - The Open Circle

I hooked up with Jus-Ed recently, spending some quality time in deep conversation and deep music.   He graciously hosted my dig at his UQ vault (Box 32, Schöneberg) and i surfaced some hours later, very content and bagging  records used in this mix.   A memorable session, notable for the boutique personal service, tasty coffee and shared experiences.  

If ever in Berlin, a hook up with @jus-ed is essential ...just keep it real!

For our 13th Quadrasphere, we hand over to our very own Wilson who has kindly shared the recording of his set at Piccadilly Central last month! Its great to hear this side of him as his record collection not only stacked with Dub Techno and Detroit heavy tunes, but he has a wealth of more deeper Detroit house and laid back grooves which was the perfect soundtrack to this Sunday  party at one of the smartest spots in Manchester.

"This mix is a live and uncut recording of my set from Nimbus Live @ Piccadilly central (4/5/25). 
Playing earlier on in the day, on a Sunday, gave me the chance to dig into loads of the deep house and Detroit leaning house records that I love and collect a lot of, but don’t get the chance to play out a lot. 

This mix was recorded using 2 x technics 1210's, 2x CDJ 2000NSX and 1x Pioneer DJM A9"

The Quadrasphere 013 - Wilson

For over 20 years Martin Jarl was something of an anomaly in my record collection. At the turn of the century, I was largely buying records on the likes of Deepchord, Salz, Nurture, Bluetrain & Minus THX. I'd also been following the emergence of some labels pushing the more minimal sound for a couple of years, the likes of Out to Lunch, Playhouse & Raum...musik. After the closure of Atlas in Soho I habitually shopped in Smallfish; and I remember adding Martin's Weetabix EP to the listening pile. Upon hearing it I immediately bought two copies, and for the next two decades considered it one of my 'desert island discs'. 

By 2024 both copies were hammered and full of surface noise, and what started out as a tentative ask for some wav files, turned into an opportunity to re-release a track from one of my favourite records. Frankly I could've gone for any of the four tracks. Whether Martin knew to what extent or not; including a remaster of the title track in last year's V/A compilation was a really special moment in lempuyang's journey. Naturally I also asked him if he'd be up for recording a mix for the series. Martin is anything but prolific, and good things truly come to those who wait.
