"The concept for this mix was to recreate the types of sets that I've been playing recently in small intimate nightclubs from 5am onwards. The types of places where the only purpose is to get your head down and dance. It's kind of tripped out, deep and skippy. I feel as a DJ I have many avenues I go down but this is undoubtedly my absolute favourite flavour to play.

Our goal with Body Movements is that it is representative of the full – as much as possible – spectrum of the queer community within clubbing culture. We have a broad and diverse music policy and represent a wide range of sexual identities, cultures and ethnicities." - @saoirsemusic

DJs, producers and good pals Warren Cummings and Joe Danvers-McCabe formed Kassian in 2019 after clicking at a party in Peckham. The two had been doing their own thing for some time - Warren under the moniker Warren Xclnce and Joe as Danvers - but after finding a musical symbiosis with one another, they decided to join forces and have since received a ton of praise in the short time they've been a duo.

Their first releases explored the realms of house music, on releases for Heist, Phonica Records and Shall Not Fade, but since they've veered into the world of techno and UK bass.

The launch of their label, Faux Poly, was a catalyst for the new direction. Starting as a space for their own releases, they're now welcoming new artists to the label, the first being London-based DJ Jay Carder and her debut EP Entropy, which we premiered a track from recently. When they're not running the label, gigging or readying their own releases,  Joe and Warren run their own East London-based studio, 38east Studios, which offers a fully equipped space for producers to come and make music.

Following a healthy string of gigs across the UK and Europe, including debuts at Panorama Bar, HOR and Radio Radio, and ahead of a jam-packed release schedule next year, Kassian treat us to a mix of bass heavy grooves, melodic techno and hypnotic broken rhythms.

Raised in South-East London, relocating to Bath since(spending days between there and Berlin) Niks Delanancy aka NIKS has become one of the prominent names in the UK club scene today. She is also the founder of Black Artist Data base which is the platform she created to promote Black Artists around the world. Now working on the next stage of B.A.D.’s evolution. The label will be launching to accompany the existing platform, releasing music that aligns with its mission. NIKS will be managing the label as well as acting as A&R. Being raised with a father who was a guitarist in a band and her brother who was an avid music collector in the heyday of London’s garage movement, NIKS has been surrounded with a musical ear all of her life. With an ear that touches from classic deep house to the driving percussive UK stylings of Hessle Audio it doesn't take long to figure out how NIKS' diverse pallet has seen her play clubs all over the world and helped the artist bag a nomination for "Breakthrough DJ of the year" at the Mixmag awards last year as well as seen her knock out mixes for Resident Advisor and The Warehouse Project to name but a few, it's this diversity we see in this club ready mix for Phonica 105. We have a quick chat with NIKS about the mix, B.A.D and what they have coming up:

Phonica Mix Series 105: NIKS

Nyra's musical output connects all his formative influences. After catching the music bug as a youngster through this mum's record collection, the Sheffield-born DJ and producer went on to properly cut his teeth as a DJ and promoter in the steel city.

Having immersed himself in his hometown's rich musical legacy, he felt motivated to start his own party Downlo back in 2008 which became a pitstop for artists like Ben UFO, Steffi and Efdemin, in turn helping put the city on the underground dance music map.

He then made the move down to his current home base of London, after which he really found his stride with production, releasing music and remixes for Domino, Secretsundaze and, more recently, for Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant label.

The move was the catalyst to launch his own imprint too. Canoe gave Nyra free reign to share everything he'd been working on, from house, techno and breakbeat to synth-laced dance floor workouts, all tied together by a palpable sense of euphoria.

It's a feeling that extends to his DJ sets too, especially as a resident for London-based queer party Adonis. In fact, you can hear for yourselves on today's mix which was recorded live at one of the club nights last year. From classic to deep, vocal and hip - it's house music in its many forms and it's gonna put a smile on your face.
