OUR man Quantec is nothing if not versatile. An aficionado of many styles including ambient, deep house, Detroit, dub, dubby electronics, experimental and roots reggae, he can turn his hand adeptly across the musical palette. For this his latest release on Neighbour Recordings it’s all about the ‘D’; deep ambient, drone and dub techno that’s dope with a capital ‘D’. Not for nothing is his album titled Journey of Mind. It’s a personal and self-assured trip from first note to last – not surprising for a producer with almost 25 years in the game – drifting as it does through contemplative sonic worlds and ethereal soundscapes. And while the label co-owner’s handiwork here is from the ‘less is more’ school of production, it’s nonetheless big on atmosphere with an undercurrent of drama or melody never too far away. Notable destinations on this journey include Depth of Immersion, Mind Wandering, Motionless and Perfect Stranger. Bon voyage.

For its first ever release, Polën (Melifera's newborn sub-label) invites nine producers from the french electronic music scene to share their own take on ambient & downtempo music.

Biotope Season 01 has been entirely recorded and produced during a creative residency in October 2023 in Salles-sous-Bois (France), where the legendary "La Vallée Électrique" festival is held.

The artists spent this precious time together collecting field recordings from the Aleyrac valley, sharing knowledge, playing music and learning about their natural surrounding. As part of the creative process, the artists had to use the field recordings in their composition.
We encouraged them to contemplate the visible and to listen to the invisible.

Polën’s first compilation is the result of this wonderful experience : a crossroad of genres, and a humble experimentation about time, music and life.

Quantec alias Sven Schienhammer grew up in the '80s. Producing and remixing electronic music since 1995 first using hardware tools such as Rolands MC 505 and a 303 with some efx tools.

Now the studio is hardware and software in symbiosis. Using some oldschool synths from the 70's & 80's for the love of the lo-fi feeling of those machines! The sounds are digitized thoughts and emotions.

Personal favourite styles in music include detroit and dubby electronics, deep house, dub, roots reggae, drones, ambient and some experimental stuff. He also releases music as Monoaxial and Sven Schienhammer.
