Album number three, conceived in three different studios around the world, by the three-headed love monster which is Buttering Trio.

Our third and new album is the reflection of the sobering evolvement of ourselves. We approached the making of the album with clarity and intention, working on a regular basis with a very specific vision, a vision of an album that ultimately combines the beauty of studio-beat-making and organic songwriting. Unlike our previous albums, that were more on the range of spontaneous intuitive combustions, this album is a matured love child of an ever-awaking threesome of parents. ‘Threesome’ is an album that moves the soul, bounces the body and looks in the eyes.

The album was created in 3 different studios around the world - Trixx Studios in Berlin, Fossil Studios in London and Firehouse Studios in Tel Aviv. All the sessions were driven by an uncompromising sound approach, yet always with the natural twist of noise. The creative process was in liquid form - it could be an intuitive beat making upon which harmonies and lyrics are laid, or it could begin with a well processed harmony to which a rhythm is matched.The song making was always potent with playfulness but the big picture was solid. 

Influenced, as always, by round-the-galaxy rhythms and ideas, from indian ragas thru tribal music to archetypical melodies with a drop of dub, this is definitely a new kind of genre. Or no kind at all. This style represents our music and comes to a perfect extraction in this album. Each song stands for itself as an individual, tells a single complete story, still contributing to the harmony of the whole. The special kind of tension between the single song and the whole musical vision is one that we play with, in our live concerts and in this new album specifically. 

The album owes its’ existence to the uniquely changing relationship between the three of us. A relationship that manifests through communication that allows space and mystery, and is based on the common primal acceptance that nothing stays the same.

Last Gas Station aka La.Ga.Sta. turns 10 this year, and celebrates its tunefully inspirational road trips through all these years in a very special way. They (Vangelis and Vaios) invited some of their favourite artists and producers, who have been part of LAGASTA’s family all these years, to choose a best-loved song of theirs, and make a cover version of it for a new anniversary compilation. The outcome is an exceptional ….track compilation that brings the most deserving music to the surface, from George Michael to Siouxsie and the Banshees and from Pet Shop Boys to Blood Orange. It’s a fusion of different decades and music styles.
LAGASTA’s 10 years anniversary compilation drops on May 6th as a free download, with artwork by one of the most exciting graphic designers today, Portugal-born, NYC-based  Bráulio Amado.
Munich’s Benjamin Fröhlich, co-founder of the ever-excellent Permanent Vacation imprint and a great producer and DJ, has been part of LAGASTA since the very first days, with some of LAGASTA’s most beloved tracks being released in his label. For the compilation he serves his version on a track that was a big inspiration for him through the years; the 1981 “How Much Are They”, an 80s anthem from Jah Wobble/Jaki Liebezeit/Holger Czukay, taken from their collaborative album “Full Circle” that was released back in 1982. A true masterpiece.

On the flip of our 100th 45, ‘Soul Fugue,’ is an epic battle between two massive orchestral armies composed and arranged obsessively by BOSCO MANN based on the Fibonacci series and the number 100. From the left speaker, a battalion made up of all of Daptone’s many brass players is lead by the great DAVE GUY on first trumpet to the beat of Dap-King legend HOMER STEINWEISS on drum set. From the right, all of our woodwind players charge into battle behind IAN HENDRICKSON-SMITH on lead alto saxophone with Dap-Kings stage drummer BRIAN WOLFE pounding the kit. Featuring current and past members of The DAP-KINGS, ANTIBALAS, The BUDOS BAND, MENAHAN STREET BAND, The EXTRAORDINAIRES, The SOUL PROVIDERS, and The DAKTARIS, The 100 KNIGHTS ORCHESTRA crammed into the studio on the rarest of days, February 29th, 2016 to absolutely devour this gargantuan
instrumental. 

What started as an ambitious thank you to you, our beloved fans, has now also become a loving tribute to the brothers and sister we've lost since it’s inception: Charles Bradley, Dan Klein, Cliff Driver, and our eternal Queen, Miss Sharon Jones. So, thank you, friends, for all the years you've help us to "Keep Putting Soul Up". May this disc forever live as a token of our gratitude, and keepsake of the times when our departed loved ones shared the stage with us.
