Hey, even though I'm on vacation doesn't mean I can't make some kick-ass chill-as-hell ambient music! I brought my Blofeld and lappy up here, plus my brand new (old) TR-707 and my MPK mini keys to play with. Maybe I'll do some old fashioned Detroit techno next with the 707, basically a poor-mans 909. Aww yiss!

That's right, I'm uploading from a cabin in the middle of a small spit of land in a harbor! Life is good. Plus it just rained, so I wanted to take advantage of this momentary break to bring you fine folks some good music. Well, less music more ambient.

Everything but drums are outboard. Used FL Studio 12 to sequence and all the other shit. Some hardware fx, some software. Mainly Valhalla stuff, Pancake, etc.

Lullaby I

I'm back, had to study for a midterm and get a lot of stuff done. But now I've got the L100 hooked up to my Roland REVO-120, with two mics in stereo surrounding the cabinet. The REVO-120 is a leslie emulator, it's pretty cool. Uses Roland analog chorus and phaser circuits to simulate the doppler horn on the leslie.

This is just something I wanted to make. And now that I have a real tone-wheel Hammond, I can make it! Working on my Doric combo organ, hopefully that will be in the mix within the next month or so.

Can't Sleep

Hey everybody, chill out homies. Everything will be just fine, I'll be supplying everyone with positive vibes and chill waves from here on out.

But for real, I did this all in one day and it does show a little. It's a simple enough chord progression, with just one held chord being shifted up and down by a whole step. DW-8000 is using this cool patch that exploits high-resonance to create an almost automated sounding effect. I also come in and solo on the SH-09 live through a Small Stone Nano. Really fun piece, not to mention every single patch in this song was made by yours truly.

This is my first track done entirely in REAPER, also it's the first track to use my newly (sort of re)acquired EX-8000! I like the beat, but I can't really come up with anything else at the moment. Too stressed out, though this song is pretty chill and helps a lot.

Modular Patch 5 (Bermuda.Tune.LP-1.WaspVCF.Clouds.Mikro)

This is a fairly simple track, came about after I was screwing around with the 0-coast and my HEK. Then I threw in a messy and noisey MS-20 bass sound, put some pad on top, and voila.

Rainsheets

Another cozy, calming track. It's pretty simple, started with a recorded track on the MPC1000 that is played to the 0-Coast. That then goes through Clouds with a bit of pitch mod. Buffer is set low.

I recorded that and the RS-101 live, then put some fx on the 101. Recorded in the DX7, the MicroPiano, and then finally the MS-20 mini.

Sunrise Over Brook

Another cozy track, decided to turn it into a little lo-fi hip hop track. Messed around with a home-brew DX7 epiano patch, threw it through some fuzz and bit reduction as well as some vinyl/lo-fizer type things. Then I made a quick beat using CR-78 samples, put that through some heavy compression and bit reduction. And finally beefed it up with some pads from the K4 and a bass from MS-20 Mini. Oh yeah, and the weird blippy bloops come from the 0-coast being ran through Clouds.

Cabin In Forest

A not so great test of 4-tracking some house grooves. Damn fostex barely works anyways, this took 30 minutes of carefully balancing cords to get to work.

Oh, I added a bit of low and high end compensation EQ in REAPER just to make sure that the bits I wanted heard came through a bit clearer. The high-end gets absolutely stripped away on the Fostex sometimes.

Fuzzy

I wanted to make a sorta chilled out lofi hip hop track, but I also wanted to try out some ideas I had with integrating my MPC and modular together, so I did both lol.

Quick explanation of the MPC/Eurorack integration: So, I'm clocking o_C and the Turing Machine using output 1 of the MPC. The click is generated from a 606 CH sample slowed down slightly and with a super short envelope. Then I chopped up a vinyl vibraphone sample and sent that from output 2 to one of my LPGs. That one is modulated by o_C and is sent towards Clouds. Clouds chops stuff up live and freezes and shit.

I watched that hainbach vid on little handheld tape recorders, and using those to record things and play with the tape speed. So I did that with a little pocket portable voice recorder I've got laying around, with my dulcimer providing sound. Ran it through my modular, threw in some extra sounds. Neato!

Alright, selling off some stuff so I'm taking a bit of time to focus on just the drums and bass sounds on this one. Actually fairly happy with this cut, did a little editing to spice things up a bit.

Bass is all Lil Erebus, and drums are 2hp kick and snare, with some BL mini shimmery for hats.

Since I'm in the process of moving my studio to my new place, music production has been somewhat slow but I haven't let it stop me, it seems I can still make LoFi stuff through my headphones until I get my studio acoustically treated. This one is a doozie, and I've got a multicam'd video to boot! So, it's me on tenor sax, p-bass, and synths/drum machines. I've got the MXR 185 paired with the RD-8 (TR-808 clone) for some serious 80s vibes, and then we've got a whole bunch of stuff either self-sequenced (MS-101 and JX-3P), or live played (DW-8000 noise sweeps).

Check the video out if you get a chance! It's really neato. I may go in depth on how I recorded this tomorrow if I get a chance, it's a little interesting.

I got an octatrack! I've got it in a stand with my Rytm so that I can feed the rytm's outs into the octa AB input for live sampling and stuff. Plus that frees up another two channels on the 246, so I can could combine this all with the modular or something to that effect hopefully.

But yeah, it's some really limited Octatrack stuff, but I literally just got it this afternoon and I didn't start till like 11 and it's only 2 so ehhhh
