Amon Tobin occupies a peculiar position in the dance music firmament – a point where the gravitational forces of IDM, EDM, D’n’B and rather more hipster-friendly bass music balance one another out. He’s got every bit the production finesse, and often the weirdness, of WARP luminaries, he can also make some very deep and dark basement-friendly tunes – yet he is something of a rave superstar in the USA, and for The Six Rhythms EP he’s on Dutch loudness-warriors Noisia’s label Division. His Two Fingers guise was originally created for tracks with UK MC Sway, but it’s now an instrumental project. We won’t lie, the other tracks on this EP slide a bit far into stadium rave territory for us, but this one – a healthy dose of body-rocking warehouse electro – does the business and then some. It’s out on 22nd June – you can preorder on the Division site or iTunes.

Cititrax is proud to present a four song debut solo EP by The Hacker‘s new project called Amato. Influenced by early EBM, German techno and new wave, Michel Amato aka The Hacker began producing tracks under his new moniker Amato in 2014. The first one to be released, called Physique, came out in 2015 on the Cititrax Tracks Volume One EP and was a dancefloor success. On this forthcoming EP, entitled “Le Desordre et La Nuit”, Amato integrates his love of the new wave to form four ebm tinged techno funk hits. Very dancefloor friendly, these tracks take pop elements reminiscent of Belgian body music and bring them to the present day. Amato shines as a producer here, as he has so many times before. It’s an absolute honor for us to release this debut project. Artwork is sourced from photographs taken in NYC in the 1980s with layout by Veronica Vasicka. The release is limited to 999 copies pressed on 160 gram silver vinyl, and accompanied by jackets printed on matte heavyweight cardstock. Release date: July 13, 2016.

I'm particularly proud to present the 4th ISTHEWAY release, which happens to be a cooperation for an exclusive, single-sided vinyl-only EP.


Barely avoiding a collision course, Shinoby and Hypnobeat keep a makeshift synchronised track on a forceful, agitated ride through a vast junkyard of hyperbole, hounded by a furious aurora that threatens to expose the shadow-casting and shade-loving construct to the light of grandeur while the protagonists' programming is on the verge of bursting at all seams of the grid and scatters dirty, feather-edged sounds galore along the endless trail of exhaustion. Nevertheless, from the beginning it is clear that all things pass into the night – the light, the speed, the sound, the matter, and so do those who follow with a curious and obsessive mind and a lust-shaken body.


Following a "neo-tribal" approach, James Dean Brown founded Hypnobeat in 1983. Evolving from the project, JDB formed Narcotic Syntax in 1995, a band he boosted together with Yapacc in 2003, with releases on Perlon, WIR and Prospector. After all, Hypnobeat retransformed from Narcotic Syntax and saw the exciting new evolution with Helena Hauff joining the project in 2013.


The duo's live performances are completely based on improvisation, exhausting the power of an untamed Roland horde which is unique on stage: 1 x TR-707 + 3 x TR-808 + 2x TB-303 + an array of effects = provocative percussion, voodoo passion, tribal ecstasy, hypnodelic temptation, psycho-exotic magic, universal resonance, and a quantum of danger under a crypto-bohemian approach.

Solid Steel (23rd December) For the penultimate show of 2016 it's an all French Solid Steel with Parisian duo Acid Arab heading up Hour 1 and Nikitch in Hour 2. 
Formed in 2012 by Parisian DJs Guido Minisky and Hervé Carvalho, Acid Arab patiently honed their style by meeting with scores of artists from all over North Africa and the Middle East. Born in the transcultural cauldron that is Paris, their concept was to create a space for Arab culture in the world of contemporary electronic music. Their recent album 'Musique de France'  was released in October this year on Crammed Discs and for their mix we were told;
"Acid Arab on this mix offers new versions of songs from 'Musique de France' as well as tracks by artists they dearly like"

Perc Trax opens its account for 2017 with the first full EP on the label from London's Manni Dee. As uncompromising in sound and as he is politically aware Manni is leading the next generation of London techno artists who continue the city's rich history of producers operating at the more extreme edge of the genre. 

Lead track 'London Isn't England' is a driving, sharp-edged slice of UK techno inspired by the June 23rd referendum result. Charging forward from the moment it starts, a searing lead line and Ewa Justka's distorted vocals only add to its relentless momentum. 

B1 track 'Mephi' keeps up the pressure hitting the middle ground between Perc Trax's heavy hitting sound and the more percussive output of the city's acid techno scene, whilst 'Adorable Disorder' allows a pause for breath yet still shivers with the uncertainty of the future.

Slam get to grips with Envoy’s 1996 classic, ‘Dark Manoeuvres’ in this latest EP release. Soma have been bringing some of Envoy’s classic releases up to date with Slam following Ricardo Villalobos in reinterpreting the earlier work, all of which leads to May’s release on Soma of new material by Envoy. 

Dark Manoeuvres is a track which lives up to its name, the original expressing pumping, dark and crunchy sounds interspersed with string arrangements and overdubs which move the track in various different directions. The 1996 original is a great example of some production techniques of the time and is of interest in identifying the direction of the Techno sound in that era, as well as being eminently listenable. 

Slam were very much involved in the progression of Techno at the same time as Envoy was creating tracks such as Dark Manoeuvres and as such they have a real handle on how things have evolved, enabling them to bring a classic release such as this bang up to date. 

The distinctive hook, attention-grabbing melody and strings which are distinctive elements of the original are all incorporated in a full and fresh dynamic which sees some of these elements regrouped in individual sections such as the strings or moulded with deeper, darker resonance into a new expression. The hi-hat and kick drum interplay still drives the rhythm keeping that element as a prominent part of the track, setting a strong foundation that was integral to the original. Some of the more idiosyncratic elements of the original such as the aquatic overdubs, highlighting production, are reconstructed with use of modern technology to provide waves of highly imposing, building sound at crucial points in the track.

This is a great remix by Slam elevating the original track and elements within it to provide a new and totally engaging release which still expresses all the great qualities of the original. This will be a firm favourite with old and new fans of both Envoy and Slam.
