Cauda Pavonis (Tail of the Peacock) is the alchemical stage that represents the end of putrefaction and the beginning of fermentation, in which an array of iridescent colors appear out of the darkness in the imaginary laboratory flask. This symbol of rebirth after death is also connected to the liminal state between sleeping and waking, and the “eyes” of the peacock’s tail represent spiritual sight and visions.

Duo Caprice  for Flute and Piano

Written March 31 - April 3 2016, it is my 4th work for concert band. The piece goes through several 'moods' created by changing the texture in the family of instruments used (whether it it be brass, winds or percussion). It is scored for a large concert band and utilizes mixed meters all the way through.

IV. The floodgates of heaven are opened
V. Whoever flees at the sound of terror will fall into a pit; whoever escapes from the pit will be caught in a snare. 
VI. The moon will be dismayed, the sun too ashamed to shine, but the glory of the Lord will reign forever.
