This is without question the most complex track that I've made so far. I've used 8 synthesizers to construct the different melodies and there are many little glitch details that took quite some time make. 
I've tried several different versions of the main melody, but all of them didn't create the feeling and atmosphere that I was looking for. In the end, as always, the most simple one was the right one :)

Pink Floyd has been a huge inspiration to me for many years. When you listen to their tracks today they are still very original and do not sound out-dated at all. Most of them are just so complex in terms of layers, small details and  tempo changes....it really amazes me. Also, they were always far ahead of their time in terms of recording techniques and using analog gear such as the early moog synthesizers. Listening to the Floyd never gets dull for me...I listen to some of their albums every year and each time I discover new interesting things.  

Remixing something that is by many (including myself) seen as 'holy' is of course a bit tricky. My remix will never even come close to what Gilmour and Waters created at that time. 
The Wall is definitely not my favorite album, I'm much more into Wish You Were Here and Animals for example...but the track 'Goodbye Blue Sky' just had some vocals that I couldn't resist to use for a remix. 
The original track itself is actually very dark and moody (it's about the cold war and the possibility of a nuclear conflict after all). Therefore, I decided to make my remix the exact opposite: happy and optimistic. I've made a lot of small delay edits to the vocal which you can hear in the middle of the track. It's probably not very suitable for the dancefloor but more a track to listen to at home.

I've worked for about three months on this mix. After receiving a lot of positive reactions on my previous mix (Aerial Echappement), my main goal was to stretch my creative boundaries even more. It resulted in a recording of 93 minutes including 57 tracks. Most of it was mixed live in Traktor, some parts were studio mixed in Ableton Live and I made a lot of small edits and additions to the mix as a whole in Logic Pro. In order to create what I had in mind, I really had to delve deep into the large music library that I've build up in the past years. The result is a mix with  a pretty stunning variety of artists and genres covering a broad timespan (1968 till 2013).
The biggest challenge was to 'glue' all these totally different styles, atmospheres and emotions together. I've used some 'field recordings', which are basically just recordings of an environment such as the beach or a jungle. I combined these with short loops from a lot of minimal- and dub techno tracks. 
Due to its complexity, listening to this mix is probably not enjoyable for everyone. Therefore, the reactions from those who do take the time to listen and appreciate it, are even more important to me. I've put a lot time and especially a lot of fun in making this, I hope you'll enjoy listening to it just as much!

QuiQui - Time Difference Radio Show - Guest Mix

The idea for this mix came to me a couple of years ago when I watched the documentaries 'Everything is a Remix' and 'RIP a Remix Manifesto', which I can both really recommend. Sampling has been one of the main drivers behind the origination of new music genres such as hip-hop, house and techno in the 80's and 90's when samplers came to the market. I've always found it a lot of fun to spot samples from old songs in today's music. What I wanted to create with this project is something which you might pretentiously call: 'The Ultimate Mashup'. Unlike regular mixes I wanted to use a huge amount of short samples, mashups, loops, acapellas and parts from hundreds of different songs to create something totally new. 

In 1969, the most sampled drumbeat in the world, better known as the 'Amen Break' (from The Winstons - Amen Brother) was recorded. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, search for it on youtube, I bet you'll recognize it immediately. An astonishing amount of hip-hop artists used this sample in their tracks in the late 80's. In the early 90's, the jungle genre was entirely build around reconstructing the amen break sample. There are a lot more comparable samples and drum loops that have influenced our musical history in a profound way. James Brown's Funky Drummer, The Honey Drippers - Impeach the President and Lyn Collins - Think -, just to name a few. I made use of a lot of these famous samples. In total, you'll hear 195 different songs in 72 minutes in this mix.

Radiohead is a continuing inspiration for my music. Their melodies and rhythms are always original and often quite ‘eerie’ in sense. I saw them in 2017 live in Barcelona and it was the best live performance I’ve ever seen – by far. I wanted to remix one of their songs for a long time and decided to pick ‘Weirds Fishes / Arpeggi’ from their ‘In Rainbows’ album. The building arpeggio notes at the start of the song really fit well in a more electronic version. I first wanted to create a real peak time dance floor track, but it turned out to be a very stretched laid back deep house track. It included many more synths, melodies and other elements, but in the end I decided to just use a stripped down version as it would respect the original feelings of the song the best. Sprookje is the Dutch word for 'fairytale', and that is exactly what I wanted this track to be. 
It is inspired on a youtube song which a friend send me, where someone is playing a Kalimba instrument. I managed to find a Kalimba preset for Native Instruments Kontakt 5 in order to recreate the melody. I tried to create a Max Cooper like bassline with the Sylenth 1 Vst and gave the track soms extra synths, distortion and hundreds of little glitch details with Izotope's Stutter Edit. The break was the most difficult part, where I created a second melody with sylenth with an unusual delay on it.

It has been released as an EP on ADRO Records on September 30th 2013. If you want to use it in a dj-set or live-performance, you can find the extended mix on beatport, which is easier to mix.

The stratosphere is one of the layers in the Earth's atmosphere and that is where you'll hopefully imagine yourself to be listening to this track. The guys from 10dens definitely were a big inspiration for me on this one. This really represents what is for me 'Neotrance'. The euphoric and melodic feel of the good old trance era, but without those pretentious big stadium like synth sounds that never live up to what they're trying to be :)
