QX PREMIERE: Poulper & Renuna - Don Electron (CSK Remix)[Bonkers Records]

Brazilian rising (and shining) star Hoochie Coochie Papa makes his debut on Mélopée Records with a true ode to the good ol’ 80s. The “AE86” EP, named after a legendary Toyota model of which Mr Papa is a big fan, brings two synth extravaganza originals and a beautiful remix made with love by the one & only British producer From Beyond.

Hailing from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, the bearded and skilled producer takes his motto “I can't get enough of Disco” very seriously. His works – found on Golden Soul, Emerald & Doreen, LoveDogs, and Rare Wiri – have indeed fat and generous amounts of Disco Music and its unnumbered sub-genres. On “AE86”, Synthwave was the chosen sonority.

Premiered here, the fabulous From Beyond’s interpretation of “Nuovo Tempo”. Alex, to start, decided to speed down things a little bit, going from 120 BPM of the original to 117 in his version. Then he decided to strip some of the retro atmosphere off, not that he is not a Disco Head himself, but a more minimalistic touch brought an insightful aura to Mr Papa’s work. We liked it!

Choosing a name for a track is as important as making a track, that lives up not only to the expectations of the producer but also to the name that's been given to a track itself. “Ether” - meaning sky or heaven is a suitable description, so as "white noise" would be. Both of them share similar characteristics. Like sky has a dozen of overlays, it is never 50 shades of blue. It is a mixture of unexplored space regions of the universe beyond the terrestrial sphere. White noise is a type of noise that is produced by blending sounds of various frequencies together. Basically, if I had to use a term to define this particular
tune, I would say - static. And that is as obvious as it gets right? But don't forget yet what has just been mentioned, the track itself is not as plain as "static" suggests. It takes creativity and dedication to actually make something like this - work. And the fact that it can ignite curiosity and references to certain mediums just proves the point. Incredible how Stylic managed to turn this vibe and all the sounds into a story that becomes real every time you turn on loud this track

EP begins with "Frontera Industrial" original track. If by any chance this track was a horror flick, there would be parts, begging to be censored. This track 
is both suggestive in its variety of themes lurking behind every corner as much as it is submissive to the boundaries of its own affection. "Frontera Industrial" is something that you will find familiar and ultimately captivating to one of those 80's or 90's TV theme tracks, once you hear them, you can't shake them off.

Roam Recordings kicks off 2022 with up and coming Canadian artist RJ Maxwell who brings forth two original electronic dance floor movers. The title track - Motherboard - is a driving energetic offering with melodic electronic underpinnings. The second original - Activate - is an upbeat chugger with a playful vocal. The EP is backed with three diverse remixes. The first is from Wonder Stories boss AIMES who infuses dark psychedelic energy into a shimmering remix of the original title track. For the second remix Canadian cohorts jON2 join in with a gorgeous low slung version of Motherboard. Rounding it out is Roam’s own Jason Peters who edges Activate into cosmic breaks territory.

Hailing from the U.S., Minneapolis-based producer DYR (@dyr) elevates dance floors with her atmospheric, beat-forward sets that offer an eclectic blend of techno, house, and disco. Outside of the club, DYR (real name Colleen Burns) works assembling high-end effects pedals -- a position perfectly suited for a producer with a love for delay and all-things FX.

DYR’s original tracks Skippy and Hello pay homage to early 00's house and were created on a legendary Yamaha RS7000. Skippy serves up DYR's trademark grooves coupled with shimmering synths, delayed percussion, and chunky kick drums while Hello is a rolling disco ride with amped up energy and bold breakbeats. Remixes from Jessica Bellomo (@jessicabellomo) and Axel Sundelin round out the extended player by delivering their own abstracted electro takes while retaining the original tracks’ unmistakable energy.
