After six years of graft I finally hit a million plays on my profile, so here's something special that I've been sat on for a while. Easily one of my favourite mixes from the pandemic era, Astro Jungle Part 1 (inspired by/cunningly plagiarised Aldi-style from @kolanut's Space Mix) was recorded back in October 2020 and left to mature gracefully, like a fine cosmic claret. Jem One & SR - Black Snake

In very loose terms, James K's (@jamesk_1) music operates at the fringes of the pop world. It is experimental and industrial, packed with hooks and riddled with dreamy textures that show off her mastery of synths. She has released it in album form with Dial and Incenso, dropped EPs on AD 93 and collaborated with the likes of Drew McDowall and Stefan Maie, and always manages to imbue her adventurous arrangements with real-world emotions and anxieties. This year she will join us at Dekmantel Festival but not before serving up this week's podcast.

It's the sort of rhythmically thrilling workout that has always stood James apart: jittery drum patterns and kinetic grooves that unfold at 100 miles an hour as a barrage of caustic motifs, hypnagogic melodies and hyper-real colours all bounce about the mix. There is an ever-present sense of tension in the way things are assembled - it's as if they might implode or explode at any minute, and it all sounds fantastically futuristic.

'Music They Love'... we ask DJ's and producers to delve into their collection and put together a selection of records that have meant a lot to them in the past, as well as the present. All things inspirational and influential - the records which have shaped their sound as a producer or selection as a DJ.

This week we are joined by DJ and Producer @etchofficial, who took us on a lovely journey through his record collection. Tunes from Dusty Springfield, The Meters, DJ Pulse, Silver Fox & many more!

"I try to squeeze every type of music possible into mixes, because I enjoy at least some aspect of most types of music, however for this as it was strictly vinyl I honed in on the things that build up most of my physical record collection. Music from the 60's & 70's (Psyche, Soul, Library Music etc...), Videogame & Film Soundtracks and of course Jungle/DnB - so this kinda rolls out in two parts, a more 'selection' of some of my favourite 60s & 70s records and then some of my favourite jungle/dnb records - the process was essentially me just organising my collection and going "oh my god I forgot I had this I love this record!!"
