On the newest instillation of "Doofe Musik," it's all about female vocal powerhouses and the swerving, sensual beatwork that accompanies them. Jessie Ware's "12," a collaboration with producer Robin Hannibal (of Rhye) and Salva, is somehow left off her sophomore album effort--but makes for an incredible listen. Berlin based neo-soul revivalist Chiara Noriko works her chops on "Feelin The Vibe." New Yorker Tei Shi soars to incredulous heights on "Basically." Bewildering beats are arranged around the surreal spoken word vocals of Felicita. And Cherry Glazer frontwoman Clementine Creevy howls her heart out on "Had Ten Dollaz." The most impressive track, though, surely comes from A.K. Paul collaborator Nao, on the irresistible future boogie of "Good Girl." This is stupid music for men who catcall women.

Over the past three years, Nots has been writing, recording and playing in Memphis, Tennessee. A longtime collaboration between Natalie Hoffmann  (guitar) and Charlotte Watson (drums), Nots has evolved into it's wildest incarnation yet. Featuring Madison Farmer on bass and Alexandra Eastburn on synthesizer, Nots follow up their first two singles on Goner Records with their guitar-driven, synth-laden debut LP "We are Nots." Recorded in the summer of 2014 in Memphis by Doug Easley, "We Are Nots" is out now on Goner Records.

"There's a constant post mortem + excavation of the Memphis music underground by vultures of both the Euro and American varieties. Bands form, toil and scheme, mutate, play and record only to wither away in the seemingly unrelenting wall of indifference. Plod ahead a few years, label x or label z discovers + excavates the musical rubble as much for autocratic as historic purposes. A gold star and a box of records to the winner.

he's an amazing producer, been always inspired by his stuff.
this beat is originally called "chocolate milk" and i just looped the first part.

so yea i was on my way home and i started to write down some thoughts and i already had this melody in my head. i always end up posting stuff so spontaneous. it was like two takes.. nothing big. could've done better but i didn't feel like redoing this. wanted to keep the moment. it's very personal.

Well known for their unique concepts and ideas, Steyoyoke continues to surge forward and launches yet another annual vinyl project. 'Couple Affair' is both innovative and exciting, as it channels all the skills and talent already residing within the label. Two artists are paired together to collaborate on one track, allowing Steyoyoke to streamline their skills and co produce freely within the realms of the family. The outcome is four polished originals, all exclusively created for the Steyoyoke 'Couple Affair' vinyl series.
 
'Couple Affair 01' sees Nick Devon teamed up with BLANCAh, Dahu with MPathy and Soul Button works along side both, Nick Devon and BLANCAh, for a collaboration with each of them. 

Soul Button & BLANCAh kick things off with 'Rising Silence', an unmistakably simple track that is beautifully balanced between dreamy synth lines, clean hitting drums and layers of snappy high hats. It's hauntingly delicate with embellishments of intensity and emotional longing.

The 'Shattered' collaboration shows Dahu staying true to his roots and reveals MPathy's more sinister side. Infiltrated with a strong techno presence, this track also carries a subtle progression to it, which is built upon a tapestry of dark chord progressions and murky soundscapes.

The Soul Button & Nick Devon partnership gives birth to 'Fading Light', a wholesome melodic track which is generously crafted with that ever present and distinguished Steyoyoke sound.  Alluringly, hypnotic and almost trance inducing, this track is all-consuming and confines you to place of refined aural pleasures.

The last duo of artists to team up are Nick Devon & BLANCAh with their creation 'Harmstrings'. Well defined by its vigorous energy, 'Harmstrings' is the type of track that induces a heightened sense of mystery and broodiness. The melody is both dark and ominous, with a backdrop of swirling synths and stabbing percussion.

ALSO (Appleblim and Second Storey) present their stunning debut LP for R&S comprised of their critically acclaimed trilogy of EPs.

Opener ‘Arpemonger’ (an exclusive track to the release that sees the duo stretching their classic IDM influences) leading into the uptempo cyborg funk of ‘Blyford Bass’, heavyweight bass of ’ Dive Prophets’ and bleeping synth squiggles ‘Formation’  this is an album that really benefits from good headphones and repeated listens to truly get lost in their musical intricacies.

Ever since they first met and bonded over a shared love of machine rhythms and sleek electronic grooves, the pair have been hard at work on pushing their creative boundaries to the limit, never content to take the easy route - as Laurie explains "if that means broken rhythms, and untraditional melodies then so be it. There's so many people making sonically 'correct' or refined 4x4 music, we just wanted to explore everything other than that, whilst still keeping the dance floor moving."

These heavy studio / live loose jams sessions have borne truly verdant musical fruit inspired as much by classic R&S alumni from Aphex Twin to Blawan and the Detroit axis of Carl Craig and Juan Atkins.

ALSO is pan genre, pan generational, emotive electronic music at its bes.  Truly something special and a fine addition to R&S rich heritage of forward thinking dancefloor sonic artistry.
