Sun Creatures is a new jazz-outfit lead by the two Danish musician/producers Arto Eriksen and Fridolin Nordsø, sprung from a shared love for 70s funk, West African rhythms, and Brazilian drum ensembles.
 
With their new single, ‘Soi Cowboy’, the duo crank up the fury. The sound is keyed up and light on its feet, racing through frenzied grooves with impressive dexterity. Dizzying percussion-dribbles, rogue basslines and distorted horn-riffs worked up into frantic screeches. Latin influences melt into the raw street-funk ooze and kept in check by an unmistakable technical skill.

This track is a tribute to genre which flourish in 90's, a love letter to bands like US3, Jazzmatazz, Incognito, Brand New Heavies, Groove Collective and of course Miles Davies and his marvellous "Doo-Bop".

I started working on this piece around July 2022. I've stuck on my inability to do any advanced jazz solos/improvisation and embellishments so this track ended up in my "musical drawer".
Luckily, after finishing my previous piece "Vital Signs", where I used sax VST, I shyly approached Jörg aka @joerxworx with a request to evaluate my saxophone scribbles and a proposal to finish my unrealized piece.
Jörg turned out to be a nice, understanding guy who willingly joined this project. At this point, I would like to thank him very much for this wonderful contribution to this piece, a lot of advice he gave me and a lot of patience for my slow work.

main thing about this is the fun to blow one of the cool Respiro* presets ... *(a physical modelling synth) with my Akai EWI breathcontroller. This preset delivers a kind of hybrid breath instrument, with a range from sounding like a bari sax in the deepest up to a harmonica in the higher register. I furnished the basic composition and all other parts including the finished production .

The word 'Isnae' in the title is from the Old Scots dialect and simply means 'Isn't'

Abstraction, with feeling. Saxophonist Paul Dunmall, a veteran experimental jazz musician, was feeling drawn to vitality. He wanted to organize a group of musicians that were driven by an underlying pulse and a central energy, beyond the abstract improvisations he had been familiar with for years. He had always appreciated jazz that had a driving, uplifting energy, and organized this quartet, inspired by these musicians’ previous improvisational performances. Alongside guitarist Steven Saunders, bassist Dave Kane, drummer Miles Levin, Dunmall produces an exuberant two-track, hour-long album, ‘World Without,' ranging from spontaneous crescendo to moments of quieter interlude. Their forthcoming album will be available as a CD in August 2023.
