How do you turn this on?

For this month’s show, Annx (@anna-rose-wirth) invites Brighton-based DJ and events organiser Bil-sol (@Bil-Sol). He’s been organising @22tapes parties at the likes of Corsica Studios and The Cause since 2017. He also runs a mix series/music & art platform @aquaticformations which focuses on the more dreamier and euphoric side of 90’s electronic music.

In this mix, Bil has crafted together some newer releases with some ‘psy-tingled club tracks’ crossing a few different sounds along the way — all inspired by his passion for nostalgic, high energy and euphoric 90’s electronic music.

melt mix vol. 65 - DJ Niamh

We were over the moon to be joined by @anna-rose-wirth aka ANNX, founder of London’s epic WHOMP parties, for our last show on 1020 Radio. WHOMP is a non-profit event which has so far sponsored thirty four children from disadvantaged backgrounds to gain an education in Nepal via JMB Educational Fund. Here, we discussed the project before running through a wicked mini mix from Annx capturing the sound of WHOMP.

1020 Radio - Pollination w/ ANNX (WHOMP) - 27th April 2022

@edavd is the project of multidisciplinary artist Emmanuel David Monteiro. A deep thinker, E Davd brings a theoretical and conceptual lens to his work - if you listen deeply and with intent, you can begin to understand some of the complex ideas that underscore his music. Process driven and creative, E Davd is not bound by genre, rather working with different patterns, rhythms and approaches to sound to explore his connection to, and barriers to ancestry and heritage. Starting out age nine on the congas, playing Cape Verdean and afro music in his dad’s band, E Davd now uses electronic music to explore his own ideas about black music. Now, he uses techno as a mechanism to explore complex themes such as the nexus of nature and technology, Indigenous technologies and afrofuturism. His radio show and soon to be record label ‘Visions of Utopia’ on Nomad Radio also encapsulate these themes, looking toward a utopian society that is not only equal and free from racial violence, but one in which blackness is privileged.  E Davd uses his guest mix on Passing Notes to present a deep excavation into the internet, himself and afrofuturism - expect a sound collage of original works - finished and ‘unfinished’, samples and snippets from afrofuturism documentary ‘The Last Angel of History’. I had a wonderful time talking with E Davd about afrofuturism, ancestry, blackness, black music and more.

Episode 53 of the CommaCast Series invites the talented Lora Mipsum to showcase an hour of rolling, high energy, crate digging, vinyl only proggy house goodness.

London based Lora Mipsum has been causing quite a stir in the underground prog inspired house, techno and trance scene. Part of duo tim-sum alongside top selector Timor, who've been sparking up a lot of love with their regular spot on Aaaja radio. We've been eagerly anticipating this high class selector to get on the series and we certainly weren't disappointed. A favourite to the series with this consistently quality mix from start to finish.

London based Pollination co-founder FROND delivers a superbly pieced together selection in episode 57 of our CommaCast Series.

Up-and-coming talent FROND aka Scotch Mist has had a string of highly impressive recent outings in the electronic world, with her masterclass mix for On Rotation, her highly supported 'Anx' released on the Pollination [Open Culture:No Borders] compilation release and her guest mixes with popular radio stations 1020 Radio, Aaja and Komrad. We are a big fan of what this artist is up to at the minute and very excited to share this sonic adventure FROND takes us on. Lock in!
