This track is my contribution to the traditional first Disquiet Junto Project of every year: Record the sound of ice in a glass and make something with it.

All sounds in this track were derived from recording an ice-cube in a champagne-glass and in a whiskey glass.

Love  Melts Ice (Disquiet0575)

This track was created mainly by improvisation. Four different sound layers and their very influential effects were played and mixed in a live session. The piano then was improvised to the drone created beforehand.

Following the Disquiet Junto Project 0576 the drone was divided into two sound parts, and these parts as well as the piano were played and re-recorded in different rooms. The track then was mixed from the three original and their re-recorded stems.

Pondering About (Disquiet0576)

This track was inspired by the Disquiet Junto Project (details see below): Build a simple instrument and put it to use.
I chose this old wooden box from my mother's family, but I don't know its history. It would be great if one could wake the forgotten past of such objects...

I recorded four tracks, each time filling the "shaker" with other objects. This tracks were directly used in parallel as drums. Then the composition evolved around this elements...

Réveiller le passé de l'objet (Disquiet0577)

This track was inspired by the Disquiet Junto Project 0578 (details see below): Make music for the year of the rabbit.

Everything started with the inspiring fieldrecording "rabbit drinking" (https://freesound.org/people/BeeProductive/sounds/376187/) kindly provided by BeeProductive on freesound.
I cut that recording into sections ressembling a drum-loop and built everything on top. Drums and bass follow the rabbit's rhythm of drinking, more instruments were added.
A song to celebrate the rabbit - also when drinking water!

Rabbit's Delight (Disquiet0578)

This track is a new version of the track https://soundcloud.com/rabmusiclab/hoffnung-erfreut-den-traurigen-sinn. The intention is to create a new composition that retains the important elements but gives a new listening experience by shifting the focus.

The guitar-part of @Fnubi was replaced by guitar-loops provided by @roeland11 on looperman. The other instruments were adapted to the new harmonics. Some instruments were exchanged, new instruments were added (acoustic guitar, cello, an additional violin).

Hoffnung ernähret die liebenden Hertzen (Disquiet0579)

Disquiet 0710 invited us to revisit a recent piece of music we’d made, and change it up so that one element becomes louder and busier.

I went back to the ebow drone that I made for 0696 Chain of Layers as my source material. The original version had this very low-key “bump, bum-bump” kick drum as its sole rhythmic component, so that seemed like a good candidate for getting loud and busy.

I added 8 overlapping drum parts that come and go, creating a unique (and busy) percussive pattern every 4 bars. The guitar drones are waaaaay in the background now as the drum machine does its thing, until the end when they make a noisy return.

This was a fun prompt— it was nice to get into programming drums and just stay in that mode all day.

Une valse de nos ombres

I created this track for Disquiet Junto Project 0712. The assignment involved creating a rhythm by interpreting a barcode. I interpreted the thin lines of the barcode as snare hits and the thick lines as kick drum. I programmed the snare and kick hits into my sequencer with spacing loosely following the spacing in the barcode. I improvised various keys parts over this rhythm. The number code in the barcode guided note selection. To decide which notes I could select from, I set 0 at a Bb, then counting up or down in half steps I could use any notes that were numerically represented in the barcode.

Eternal Cycles - cycle 1

"And that's how I returned drone music to its rightful place in the discotheque."

Disquiet Junto 714 dared me to take a song I'd made before and create a remix from someone else's perspective. I had the idea to start with a lovely drone I did when I first got the vintage rackmount Yamaha TX-802. I didn't have any particular remix artist in mind for this, just more or less gave myself permission to play and explore and try to transform a monotonal piece into something you can dance to. 

In addition to the Yamaha, this piece features the rich bass of a Moog Minitaur and the irresistible bump of a Roland TR-08 drum machine.
