I wake up in the morning, and place the score on the stand.
I open the keyboard lid and practice as always.
As soon as my fingers feel right, I take a deep breath and place my fingers on the keys once again.
Just as the musicians did in the old days.
Composing music starts every morning in this simple way.
Connecting to the piano.
Everyday repeats itself.
Playing until you find the perfect chord and scale.
The score which was made through many inspirations and revisions, reveals the time with the piano.
Traditionally made music that no one has heard.
The main theme of this album is “forfeiture”.
Rising up from a loss and moving towards accepting the present state.
What is here is not the past, but something for the present, rejoice.
The sound of the wood creaking and the sound of the player breathing.
The gentle sound of the piano strings resonating with each other.
It is almost as if it were midnight, creating a calm world of shadows.
45 minutes of a tranquil midnight.

Pieni, Machione’s second album, means “small” or “little”. This title was inspired by an essay written by Japanese author. In the same fashion that Machione’s first album portrayed the western area of Tokyo, the artist again plays an array of instruments, such as the gut guitar, clarinet, banjo, and reed organ. His compositions and musical stylings show a deep emotional bond to pieces of scattered memories – scenes, and adventures from his childhood, and the loneliness of living alone in Tokyo. Machione precisely paints musical visions of each, and together, they reveal his persona in this evocative album. A child’s toy boat made of bamboo leaves drifts down a small rivulet, an exploration by following a rope between the steel towers. The tones from a music box sprinkled through the album evoke images of colorful pebbles. A prepared guitar’s song paints a pattern of blurred light. TC2610, repsold, water harp bell, broken, untuned and an old, decorative object…the songs that these unique instruments sing fluidizes our senses, and swings our imaginations. This panorama exhibited before us by Machione are scenes from a small town, one that you might have visited some time.

„Everything starts with the words: I am – je suis!“

Henning Schmiedt and Marie Séférian, French / German singer of Lebanese descent, team up for a carefully woven, yet fresh and spontaneous collaboration.

Meeting in Henning’s studio Klavierraum in the melting pot Berlin they create this charming post chanson album with a slow music attitude.
Consisting of only first take recordings, it masterfully combines piano, toy piano, harmonium, vocals and electronic textures, resulting in a minimalistic and yet rich and fluid union of sound.

Lyrics are flung into the air like glittering confetti, combining eclectic elements from chanson, Indian vocal scats und jazz with the warmth of the piano and the breathing of the harmonium. The result is a stunning and organic musical interplay.

“Je suis” – I am – everything begins here.

On maison Marie plays a music box that quotes a piece of Henning’s earlier work, nach hause from his release Spazieren, as though to answer and to close the thought’s circle: “I am, I’ve come home.”
