For this arrangement, I felt it important to preserve the natural chant-like flow of this old and beloved hymn, while using the diverse timbres of flute, clarinet, and bassoon to create tonal variety against the uniform sound of the solo voice or children's choir. This arrangement was premiered by the children's choir of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Columbia, SC, accompanied by a woodwind trio of students. In this recording, you will hear a soprano soloist in place of the full children's choir for a more intimate "chamber music" feel, though a soloist of any voice part would be appropriate. The woodwind trio parts may also be used as a hymn accompaniment. Enjoy!
