Here are air checks by two of KSAN Radio's best known and most respected deejays - Bob McClay and Richard Gossett - who were part of the team that made this station a legend in Freeform broadcasting. Bob's show includes a newscast from Dave McQueen, who, like the famed Scoop Nisker, Jim Clancy at KFML, and other pathfinding journalists of the day, addressed issues no one else in traditional media was covering, and did it in a way nobody else was doing. KSAN was one of the true examples of FREEFORM Radio at its very best.

Mickey Newbury is one of the great songwriters of our time. John Prine said, "Mickey Newbury is probably the best songwriter ever." His influence on an entire generation of songwriters in Nashville challenged the traditional power structure there and gave birth to the Outlaw Country of Willie, Waylon and the Boys. His songs have been covered many hundreds of times by a wide range of great singers, but some would argue none of them does Mickey as well as Mickey. This live recording was produced by Ron Middag and Engineered by Bill Blue. All songs written and performed by Mickey Newbury, except Please Send Me Someone To Love, written by Percy Mayfield.

Dan Hicks was a member of the "original" psychedelic band, the Charlatans, for whom he played drums in the band's famed summer of 1965 session at the Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City, Nevada. But with this band, things were different. As he says in introducing one of the tunes in this concert from 1968, "this is about as close to psychedelic as we get." Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks played music unlike any of their contemporaries in San Francisco, swing music that touched on a wide range of genres and styles. This performance predates the band's first album by a year or so, but perfectly captures their highly original and beautifully played music.
