Kourtney, aka Rose Kourts, is a Brooklyn-based DJ, party-starter, and dance floor fixture hailing from North Carolina. She’s made a name for herself with her dynamic sets and the infectious energy she brings to her performances. She plays from the heart, encouraging listeners and dancers to go on a journey of movement, connection, and emotional release through her signature blend of crunchy, funky, groovy, hype, and hypnotic selections. 

She can regularly be found setting off Brooklyn’s dance floors - performing alongside luminaries in house and techno, throwing events, collaborating with fellow local artists, and putting out label and radio mixes. She is a co-founder and resident of Sweet Kicks, a community-focused DIY party with sounds straddling house and rave, and of In Bloom, which centers around the joy of blooming forth on a pulsing dance floor. Additionally, she is the mastermind behind a NOW compilation-inspired party of feel-good music that brings unpretentious, nostalgic favorites to the club.

After centuries, maybe the transmission is received somewhere else in the universe as an alien communication, or maybe it just returns to earth as a kind of uncanny time capsule."

"My aim was to make something that defines where I'm at as an artist and with music today. It's downtempo, sexy, swamp, slick, reflective, pretty, and fun. It was recorded with a Varia RDM20 rotary mixer. Intended to be played late, after a party, or with a lucky person one night. You'll find sounds from South America, the UK, Berlin, France, Jamaica, Switzerland, Ukraine, and many more. 

The past two years have been about discovering new sounds and revisiting some old ones. I was raised in an uncanny Christian group in Savannah, Georgia, that restricted me from a lot in life. One of the only liberating things about that group was my exposure to the music and dance of other cultures. The Guatemalan and Mexican families taught me about salsa, meringue, and bachata. My cousins from North Carolina are black, they showed me house music. The soft nods to my love for these early introductions and moments are in this mix. Blended with the reality of what I hear now." 

NSA (Cameron Allen), a multidisciplinary artist known for his art and DJ work, emerged from coastal Savannah Georgia to arrive in Atlanta where he now resides. The swampy marshland landscape of his early years sets a clear narrative for an eerie and unconventional force laced with an upbringing around latin dance, ghettotech, and electro-house music. Since his first breakthrough release praised by Pitchfork at the age of 19, NSA has spun for queer spearheads such as Deep South and Honcho, co-founded the Hz Like Hell brand and Stroke parties, and is a driving force of the Atlanta underground with his infamous after parties. His penchant for challenging and strange sounds keeps the floor hooked.

For Deep South ATL, I leaned into the idea of sharing a Rose Kourts jam session in its purest form. This is a free-flowing power hour of tracks and records I’ve been digging lately. It’s eclectic and funky, full of energy and crunchy, groovy, acid-heavy sounds that get my heart pumping, feet stomping, and stank face going. Especially as a queer Black Southern gal, it is both a pleasure and an honor for me to contribute to this fantastic series. Y’all better turn it up, enjoy!

Her travels outside of New York have thrilled dancers and won her a growing international fan base across electronic hubs like Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, Detroit and beyond.

The DJ has played festivals such as WIRE Festival, Dweller Festival, Fourth World, Shaker Mountain, Slingshot Festival, London’s Keep Hush, and Boiler Room; storied parties with collectives including WRECKED, The Carry Nation, BOUND, and The Bunker in NYC, LA’s Ostabahnhof, Miami’s Proibidae, Berlin’s Body Language, and Copenhagen’s Fast Forward; and as direct support for legendary artists like Mr. G and Moodymann, DJ Stingray and Helena Hauff, Robert Owens, The Egyptian Lover, and DJ T-1000, among other seminal talents.
