A segment of my 3 hour set that was recorded live during the 2013 Ostgut Ton resident's night at Berghain.

4AM NYC is a Brooklyn-based / London-born DJ, Producer and Educator. Known as a vinyl assassin like no other, they provide nights of music unbound by genre, dedicated to the dance floor; ruled by a furious and vivid emotional spectrum. Storytelling takes precedence in their practice and the tale will be told by any means necessary - whether it’s via heart-wrenching soul, finger-snapping house, euphoric and demonic techno, or unclassifiable future classics straight out of leftfield - their delivery is always uncompromising and energizing, passionate and sincere. For over a decade they have served dancefloors the world over: New York, London, Pittsburgh, Detroit and beyond - holding down residencies with their own party series Spiritual Mental Physical at beloved NYC night clubs such as Good Room, Le Bain, and Jupiter Disco. Their skills and commitment to the art of djing have seen them play alongside the likes of Waajeed, Ash Lauryn, Eli Escobar, Marshall Jefferson, Danny Krivit, Kai Alce, JADALAREIGN, Moma Ready + more.

Notes on the Mix ///

"This mix was directly inspired by a warehouse party i played recently in Brooklyn with Eli [Escobar] called 'Relativity' hosted by The Electrik Company. (We didn't record, but my track history was saved and i went back into the studio a few days later to recreate the magic once more for XOXA.) I got to play an extended set for a packed house that night and the energy literally was electric! It was awesome to have that back n forth with the crowd throughout. I crept up through some really seductive downtempo Techno and House at the beginning, up to harder and more hypnotic joints that i had a lot of fun layering and fkin around with, and then came in with a Disco curve ball at the end to re-energize the room and reset for Eli comin on after me. I really like to ride blends for a long time and make two records sing together - to the point where you don't know where one ends and the next begins. Making different tracks have conversations with one another is always something i like to explore during my sets no matter where or when i'm playing. I imagine each record as a fully formed being with their own defined personalities - how would they get into it with each other if they were to meet at a party? Would they fall in love? Heatedly argue with each other? Would it be a sparring of intellect over a hot topic? I wish I could see the looks on your faces when you listen to this and hear the resulting chorus of every record i played. Njoy <3"

"Chaotic cohesion" is how LORA describes her sound. And that's something we love here at R$N HQ. Borderless electronic selections, a few twists and turns, hands in the air moments... Catch one of the London-based DJ and promoter's sets and you'll get plenty of that.

LORA's pathway into DJing came via her residency for longstanding hip hop night Livin' Proof, which led her to promote her own parties. For a few years she helmed Grapefruit and Nice One, two parties that gave her autonomy on sound and curation, and welcomed artists like Violet, LSDXOXO, Afrodeutsche and Shygirl.

This experience as both a curator and resident, as well as her monthly residency on Balamii Radio in South London, has played a part in her broad approach to selection, which can see her moving from warm, deep grooves to classic old school house, shuffling UKG and euphoric breaks.

Ahead of her launching her brand new party Floorjam, which will see her bringing the likes of Raji Rags and Arianne V to Peckham's Carpet Shop, she treats us to a mix of dusty house cuts and rolling vocal grooves with a few classic cuts thrown in for good measure.

Two of the Black Madonna's most sought after early tracks return to circulation alongside one burning new jam on Goodbye To All This, the latest release from Stripped & Chewed. 

Drawn from the Chicago label's 2012 compilation Livin' For The City EP, the piano dappled joy of "Exodus" luxuriates across side A, spreading the good word with a pounding beat. "We Don't Need No Music (Thank You, Rahaan)" from SCRS004 takes another whirl around the dancefloor, its pinwheeling horns and infectious vocals pulling even wallflowers into the fray. And in case two remastered sure-shots aren't enough, the brand new "Who Do You Need" closes the record with a soulful thwack: half uplifting house, half blistering techno -- all peak-time fodder. A fine addition to the Black Madonna's discography alongside records for Argot, The Nite Owl Diner, Hometaping Is Killing Music, and of course Stripped & Chewed.

"Once a year in honor of the old Ostgut tradition, Berghain closes its doors to the straight crowd and unleashes a no-holds barred gay marathon where anything goes. Due to the circumstances of it being a different crowd and different vibe, I figured I'd upload the set which is a bit harder and funkier than I typically play." -DZ
