A. I wanted to make something different this time around and put together a mix that covers different shades of house and is still high energy :) There's 22 tracks in it for the year 2022 lol. I've been trying to focus more on channelling and being immersed in joy this year and I think this mix captures that vibe.

As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we'll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. DJ Voices will be playing our RA2122 party in New York this Saturday, November 29th.

DJ Voices is a prime example of an artist that really can do it all. The New York-based artist, originally from Florida, has been an integral part of New York's electronic music as a DJ and as a booker at one of the city's best venues, Nowadays. Voices got her footing as a selector as a founding member of the DJ collective Working Women, but these days she performs solo through her Nowadays residency and her radio show on The Lot, Nothing In Moderation. Her sets are known for their psychedelic dynamism—her selection, with which she prioritizes "energy and drama over genre," often flits from rolling low-end music, uptempo tracks (that she then slows all the way down) and wonky leftfield beats. 

"It would be hard to overstate how much Nowadays is part of my story at this point, personally and professionally," Voices told RA in the following interview. Her approach to assembling this mix she recorded for us makes that abundantly clear. The mix she recorded for RA—which sprawls out over almost three hours—features tracks that she has either played in her five-year tenure at Nowadays or that she plans to play there in the future. She organized the set in a similar way to the way she goes about her Nowadays sets. She kicks off with fast and nimble bass music ("I like to start fast in hopes of people dancing half-time"), then transitions into a knotty web of dubstep and bright percussive tracks and closes with weightless jungle. The playlist she sourced from to create this mix featured music from every Nowadays resident. It's this same thoughtfulness and meticulous attention to detail that has made her a household name in her local scene.

Born and raised in New York but now transplanted to Berlin, @gabriellekwarteng has quickly become a Panorama Bar regular known for her eclectic radio shows. The move to Europe widened the scope of her DJ sets which tend to be high energy and punchy with plenty of techno, while on the airwaves she is likely to serve up a mix of boogie, Afro-disco, and neo-soul. That broad approach no doubt stems from growing up in the musical melting pot that is the Bronx, but also from childhood summers - and later a year studying abroad - in London. Add in a desire to champion the classic Black American genres and you have the foundations of the Kwarteng sound. 

All this is reflected in this week's mix which traverses global genres with effortless enthusiasm. Hefty bass cuts and weighty rhythms build into acid-tinged workouts, sounds of the diaspora spread across the course of 70 minutes and energy levels drop even when the mood changes. It's a great snapshot of a DJ at ease with worldly sounds and the ability to thread them all together into a communal dance floor experience.

Tripped-out excursions through percussive club music with the Nowadays resident.

Ayesha Chugh, AKA Ayesha, makes club music that activates the body. The Brooklyn-based artist has spent the last few years carving out a distinct lane in modern club music. Her fusion of dubstep, techno and essential '90s rave elements into dynamite club tools that test and support dancers in equal measure. This time though, for her RA Podcast, Chugh purposefully tilts in a "more colorful wonky direction."

Since first turning heads with releases on labels like Fever AM and Kindergarten Records, she’s continued to refine a sound that feels both playful and punishing, marked by writhing basslines, rumbling drums and an innate ability to make bodies move. Her productions capture a kind of kinetic precision—tracks that are slippery yet forceful, balancing psychedelic textures with dubstep-like physicality and club-focused power. As Andrew Ryce wrote of her debut, Rhythm is Memory, her skill is "full of textures that wrap around the otherwise thudding, sub-heavy kick drums." After a serious accident in 2024 stopped her in her tracks, this year marks a full return to global touring with a new vantage point on life and the sound she seeks to push.

RA.983, clocking in at nearly two and a half hours, finds Chugh flexing that club muscle once again. Offering a tour through global club music both old and new, it's based around a set at her home base Nowadays this February. It's a patient but relentless ride: from deep, tunneling psytrance, progressive techno and slippery electro before really turning on the gas at the half mark, moving into slanted UK techno territory.

As she explains in the Q&A, it's a carefully curated selection of tracks that probes "what we perceive as tasteful." It's a mix that speaks to her deep knowledge of dance music’s lineage—and her intuitive ability to push it forward.

The latest Off-Kilter audio submission is a dive into Or:la’s expansive vision of sound - a downtempo mix of slung drums, abstract electronics and heady vocals. As an artist, Or:la navigates effortlessly through many channels of electronic expression. Here, she revisits music from her influential past with a mix that is deep, meandering and rich with texture - nailing the brief with pin-point precision - and transporting us into a dream like state.

In her own words:
 "I kept to the ‘off-kilter' brief for this one and wanted to put together a mix you can just zone out to, with less of the twists and energy shifts I usually go for in my DJ sets. A lot of the tracks mean something personal to me like the Holger Czukay one at the very end, which I first heard at uni around 2012 while watching Morvern Callar in a film studies class - the whole soundtrack really stuck with me and ended up playing a big part in me drifting away from visual arts and getting into music."

Throughout Or:la's journey as an artist, the Derry-born producer and DJ has carved out her own niche and consistently strived to escape categorisation gaining her a BBC Radio 1 Residency, an Essential mix, and DJ Mag's ‘Best DJ’ award. From running DIY parties in abandoned shops whilst studying in Liverpool, to securing some of the best club residencies around the world, Or:la's story is organic and authentic.

Staying true to her explorative propensity, Or:la 's debut album arrived via Fabric Originals in 2024 and is a testament to her ability to fluidly traverse tempos and energies. Or:la takes a similarly chameleonic approach to her DJ sets - although there's an impalpable emphasis on melody, rhythm and texture, you never really know what you might get other than a preference to follow mood over genre. Orlagh Dooley's DIY mentality extends far beyond the DJ booth - as the boss of former Deep Sea Frequency and her current label, Céad, she nurtures a community of diverse artists who share her passion for less categorizable dance music including NIKS, Primrose, Blu Terra and FAFF. The label's releases emphasize quality and creativity across a wide sonic spectrum. Since her debut EP 'UK Lonely' on Hotflush Recordings in 2017, Dooley has collaborated on a broad range of remixes, from David Holmes/Killing Eve's "Unloved" to dance floor-focused labels like Spray and Woozy. Or:la continues to run her queer-focused event series ‘La Potion', which celebrates and shines a spotlight on queer creatives. Now based back in the UK, Orlagh Dooley remains integral to the clubbing scene as a promoter and community builder, pouring her heart and soul into the place where she found her musical voice.

@transmigration_records is a Berlin-based record label and archive dedicated to reissuing temporarily lost or forgotten psychedelic electronic music.

Founded in 2022 by Irish DJ David Fogarty, the label has since gathered momentum and recognition for breathing new life into niche catalogues – often forgotten ambient and trance records from the ’90s – through careful restoration and presentation to new audiences.

Like many of the best record labels, Transmigration’s output is reflective of what you might hear in one of David’s DJ sets. Drawing from a wide-ranging record collection, he occupies a unique space that blends the deeper ends of house, techno, and trance, in a way that appeals to both large audiences and hardcore music nerds alike.

We caught up with David to talk shop on the story behind Transmigrations, and what it’s like running an independent label in 2025.

After the celebrated Metabolism LP from last year, Sigha is back with a 4-track cut for TOKEN84. This untitled record remains understated, playing with variations on a theme whereby the similarities exist seemingly to illuminate the differences between the tracks. The relationship between Circular and Hum is reminiscent of Sigha's 2016 New Puritan flip on the earlier offering of Puritan from 2012; with Circular presenting a tight, meditative loop in high-mid frequencies while Hum inhabits a similar space, only seemingly from a distance. If those two are close, measured and controlled, the other tracks on the record demonstrate more freedom and abandon. Gliss is huge and heavy, while Flare's sonic elements interact playfully and scatter as the piece progresses.
