Today will help, with a special program about magnetic tapes, noise and ingenious dilettantism - Kassettentäter - A special scene from the underground, because since the mid-1970s it was possible to record and release music from every child's room and every basement. Since that time, portable cassette recorders and four-track devices were available everywhere affordably in West Germany. Tapes!
Frank APunkt Schneider describes in his book "Als die Welt noch unterging" quite aptly the cassette scene as "the hyperactive child of the NDW era". The whole book is also highly recommended in other respects.

Nashville's finest @mischa-lively has been holding it down with his @new_love_unlimited label and event series in Nashville for some time now, and his earnest touch with electronics buoys a necessary voice in a city known for its cultural and historic power in the American music industry, but overlooked by many off the usual dance music itinerary. I reached out to him this summer, drawing an Oblique Strategy to serve as a prompt, and having drawn 'think of the radio' we jettisoned directness in favour of "the glass prism as a multidimensional object". Starting with Crystal Ball era Prince, offering playful advice and guidance, Mischa's mix spirals down Drexciyan wormholes, restrained riddims, acidic peaks, his favourite Derrick Carter remix (not who you would expect), dance hypnotics, and contemplative and reflective energies.

E-Talking's music first reached me with a release on AD 93 with Laksa and a track titled Telephone Rose. In more recent years, E-Talking has shared music across labels such as A7A, Nasty Records and Reflex. These releases include styles in techno and breaks and are featured alongside artists such as Lithe, Lawrence Lee and Tomu DJ. This year Emmanuel shared a 15 track album titled Techno Man's Land released on Good Going Records. The work combines electro, swaying ambience, and melodic techno jams and has been described as a soundtrack to the illusory video game that plays within your mind.

Alongside this music, Emmanuel holds down a monthly Rinse France residency featuring guests such as Marie Montexier and Arthur Baron. You can listen back to these on his Soundcloud and see recent appearances on Berlin's esteemed white tiled fisheye studio.

“From the third wave of DJs in Medellín emerged Julianna, a versatile selector who since 2007 is an important figure in the development of her hometown's electronic scene. She organizes events, takes part in collectives and artistic initiatives. Her work as a promoter for Move, one of the most fertile collectives in Colombia, has allowed her to develop projects and share booth with renown artists and to promote emerging talents from the region.

She’s a co-founder of Doce, Medellín's only record store specialized in electronic music and of the collective Nótt, a platform that focuses on the role of women in the Latin American electronic music scene.

As a DJ she has developed her capacity of mutability, adapting to different moments of the night, always with risky proposals that go across genre borders.”

Elemental Vol. 1 moves through earth, air, fire, and water not as metaphors but as emotional states. The songs drift like weather systems, mixing tenderness with atmosphere - acoustic guitars and field-warm vocals meeting the pulse of understated techno rhythms. The production is deliberately porous: wood and wire breathing alongside soft synths and spectral drum-machine traces. It's an "acoustic techno" album in the sense that rhythm and resonance share the same dirt. The songs carry the physical textures of wind in rafters, gravel underfoot, or rain on a roof, yet they shimmer with digital light. This meeting of folk intimacy and electronic timbres gives the album its peculiar gravity - part back-porch confession, part after-hours heartbeat.

Lyrically, Elemental Vol. 1 abandons conventional pop architecture. Instead of verse–chorus–bridge repetition, each piece unfolds as a field poem - free-form, continuous, and responsive to its own inner weather. The writing treats structure as tide rather than grid: refrains return when they need to, not when they're told to. This openness lets the language breathe in sync with the natural imagery that drives it - storms, light, stone, silence - and invites listeners to inhabit the songs as evolving spaces rather than predictable forms. Across the various mixes of its six song poems - We Learn the Sky, Don't Sightsee This Heart, Be a Storm in Me, Til the Heat Is Gone, You Happen Like Weather, and Wild Gifts - the album traces the cycles of intimacy and impermanence, finding in their motion the same quiet power that turns seasons, wheels, and hearts.

The Neighbourhood Character - @fresh_fruet - is a Berlin-based producer / selector, and a previous Incubator resident who hosts a monthly show at Berlin Community Radio. Her ongoing collaboration with NYC-based producer Afrikan Sciences has yielded releases on Lakuti’s Uzuri Recordings, and in 2018, the Tangle Transmogrifier EP was released on Jordan JCZ’s Off Minor Recordings. 

Most recently, The Neighbourhood Character has been working behind the scenes to establish the wood // work collective, an intersectional and non-binary / queer collective  in collaboration with Damon Bell, Afrikan Sciences, and Khalil Anthony. In 2017  the label-collective platform’s first album, IYAPO, was released digitally on Bandcamp. wood // work aims to create alternative avenues for socio-cultural mobility, professional self-empowerment, and transnational interchange in creative industries.
