XC 002 | Mesmé

Over the coming spring and summer months Pacific Rhythm will be releasing a handful of cassette tapes comprised of live recordings, demos, and other moments in time we felt needed to be committed to something physical and shared with the world. 

Our first cassette is a soon to be legendary recording from ESB, recorded live at Deep Blue Studios during a Dance Opportunity with LNS in the winter of 2017. The recording is just under an hours worth of ebullient Machine Funk that drifts effortlessly through his unique brand of melodic house with tinges of Balearic influence and classic West Coast energy. 

You can expect to hear more from ESB on Pacific Rhythm in the near future but for now please enjoy this essential sampling of one of Canada's most unstated and exciting producers.

On July 27th we returned to Nowadays in New York for our second twenty four/seven party. We saw DJ Sprinkles (inside) and Actress (in the garden) playing at sunrise. Aurora Halal tore up the main room. Mister Sunday closed in their own back yard. As we gear up for twenty four/seven London, we’ve revisited some of our favourite memories from the New York edition.

Pure Immanence is the conceptual collaborative DJ project of Kiddo Sincere and Nick Bazzano, blending techno, ambient, house, trance, experimental, and archival sonic esoterica into a diverse array of immersive psychedelic moods, grooves, and atmospheres.

Pure Immanence is the collaborative conceptual DJ project of Nick Bazzano and Kiddo Sincere. In their performances, Pure Immanence seeks to activate a sonic plane of consistency that evokes multiple musical atmospheres and genres, from techno to ambient, to house, trance, progressive, experimental, and beyond. This is an experiment using sound to gain access to psychedelic intensities and affective potentials immanent to the act of listening and dancing to music together. Pure Immanence has held a well-received eponymous monthly Wednesday-night residency at Bossa Nova Civic Club since 2016. 

Pure Immanence is also associated with the Unter collective, having performed as residents and having curated ambient programming for their various underground queer rave projects for years.

Tutu is someone who people speak about with a real sense of reverence despite the fact she very much remains in the shadows of the scene. The reason? Her electrifying DJ sets, which are brilliantly experimental, brave and adventurous in the way they pay no attention to rules or traditions. The Spaniard born Gemma Planell plays anything from IDM to ambient, to grime, bass and plenty of hard to define sounds in between, all with a sense of precision and dexterity that few could match.

After impressing at our festival as well as on Boiler Room,  Red Light Radio and at Sonar, she now makes a much anticipated entry into our mix series. It starts in typically brazen fashion with a monologue about the power of silence and then, a passage of silence. A giant fog horn then gets things underway again and you're carried through ambient and neo-classical, experimental minimalism and hellish techno. Weird rhythms and odd sonic textures are constantly being served up into a brilliantly mind-bending whole.

Next up for Blitz LIVE is one of São Paulo’s promising scene ambassadors, Cashu, who works out her distinct kind of sense for Warehouse-ready Techno. Held together by back-to-the-future-crafted styles, this recording showcases flashy-pulsating units, crunchy-tropical rhythms, gurkly synth-hybrids and Acid-tuned sequences. Weiter geht es bei Blitz LIVE mit einer vielversprechenden Szene-Botschafterin aus São Paulo, Cashu, die ihr feines Händchen für Warehouse-ambitionierten Techno unter Beweis stellt. Zusammengehalten von Back-to-the-future-geformten Stilmitteln, lässt das Mamba-Negra-Member in ihrem Recording großspurig pulsierende Einheiten, mit knarzend-tropischen Rhythmen, gurgelnden Synth-Hybriden und Acid-versehenen Sequenzen verschmelzen.
