It's a great honour and joy receiving all of a sudden such a radio-postcard right from ZongweFM in the Zambezi Valley. What a delight when audio resources we've created together some years back get used again on-air reminding the journey we've come. Kennedy Kambole was now, as he says broadcasting from the studio at the Boma while the radio excerpt was still aired at the small studio in the school. STIMMEN AUS HAMM 

STIMMEN AUS HAMM ist eine Serie von Kurzfilmproduktionen von Frauen und Kindern mit Fluchterfahrung, die jetzt in Hamm in Westfalen leben. Hinter jedem der Videos lädt ein ausführliches Audio-Interview zu weiterem Zuhören ein. Die Lebens- und Fluchterfahrungen der Frauen und Mütter stehen im Mittelpunkt der Produktionen.  
STIMMEN AUS HAMM war ein drei-monatiges Projekt 2022, das mit einer Reihe von offenen Workshops Frauen und Kinder mit Fluchterfahrung zu eigenen Medienproduktionen einlud. 

„Wer sind die Menschen, die als Geflüchtete zu uns gekommen sind? Wie sehen ihre Kinder diese Stadt, wenn sie aus Afghanistan, Syrien, Kurdistan, Irak, Bulgarien oder der Ukraine nach Hamm kommen? ... „   Auf diese und ähnliche, ausgesprochene und unausgesprochene Fragen wollten die Teilnehmer*innen von STIMMEN AUS HAMM auf eigene Weise antworten…

„Was wäre, wenn…  die gesellschaftliche Vielfalt in der Stadt über sich selbst erzählen könnte? Was wäre zu sehen und zu hören…?? ...im Radio zum Beispiel…?“  
STIMMEN AUS HAMM wollte diesem „wenn“ eine Chance geben und geflüchtete Mitbürger*innen, Frauen und Kinder, zu Produzenten und Produzentinnen ihrer eigenen Geschichten machen.

In Smartphone Videos und Zeichnungen haben die Kinder ihren Blick auf die Stadt, Hamm zum Ausdruck gebracht. Für Einheimische werden die Zeichnungen und Videoaufnahmen der Kinder Teil vertrauter Szenarien sein. Doch im Mittelpunkt der Filme stehen die wenig vertrauten Geschichten der Lebens- und Fluchterfahrungen, die die Frauen in ihren Audio-Interviews erzählen.

Die erzählenden Frauen möchten Mitbürger*innen, Zuhörer und Zuhörerinnen ermuntern, die Vielfalt der Lebenserfahrungen in ihrer Gesellschaft vor Ort selbst zu erkunden. 
Die Koproduzent*innen freuen sich über Feedback und ganz besonders über die Nutzung ihrer archivierten Audio- und Videoproduktionen sei es im Unterricht, Recherche oder Veranstaltungen, Fernseh- oder Radiosendungen. STIMMEN AUS HAMM ist auf youtube und im Internet Archiv auf archive.org zu finden.

STIMMEN AUS HAMM ist eine Kooperation des Internationalen Frauenforums, der Flüchtlingshilfe und des Forum für Umwelt und gerechte Entwicklung - drei lokale Vereinen, die sich mit offenen Treffs oder Beratungen für die Belange von Mitbürgern und Mitbürgerinnen mit Fluchterfahrung in Hamm engagieren. Gefördert wurde das Projekt im Rahmen des Bundesprogrammes „Demokratie leben!“ des Bundesministeriums für Familie, Senioren, Frauen und Jugend. Der Projekt-Abschluss wurde zudem im Rahmen des Förderprogramms KOMM-AN des Landes NRW gefördert.

The vocals of "her story of rocks" are based on a long interview recording with Chiza Mwinde in Binga Zimbabwe. Chiza was born in Binga, a place "at the back of beyond" as some say, and is now studying geo-sciences at Smith College in the US. We worked together at the local women's organisation Zubo Trust, Chiza as an Intern, me as a multimedia volunteer. I was intrigued by her art of storytelling. Excerpts from the interview were treated to various sets of chance cuts and effects, following the inspiration from the music, her story of rocks, the crushing of language and of tectonic plates in the history of the earth.

Dareen Tatour is a young Palestinian poet from the town of Reineh near Nazareth in the Galilee. 

She was convicted by the Israeli state on charges of incitement to violence following a poem she published: “Resist, my people, resist them”.  The lyrics of the poem in Arabic, English and Hebrew are available here. https://freedareentatour.org/poems

If we, many of us, also publish her words and we are not convicted by the Israeli state, then we must ask the true basis upon which this poet was criminalised.

Basilwizi Trust is a cultural advocacy organization for the communities of the Zambezi valley, the Tonga people who were displaced from their ancestry homeland during the construction of the Kariba Dam in the 1950s.

THE PEOPLE OF THE GREAT RIVER
The Tonga people who inhabit the areas in the Zambezi Valley on Zimbabweʼs northern border, are descended from those who were forcibly removed from their homes and fields in the valley in 1957 to make way for the rising waters of the mighty Zambezi River after the filling of Kariba Dam. The dam brought hydro-electric power and wealth to the country, but passed over those who were displaced, leaving them in the dark ages of exclusion for some decades after. Having lost everything their culture survived strongly as a driving force of self-assertion, resilience and development.

radio continental drift is a mobile radio drama project focusing on spoken word, “dramatic field-recordings”, narratives usually produced before/ during/ after skills-training workshops or in the context of long-term collective audio media projects such as the NO-GO-ZONES project and the DURBAN SINGS audio media & oral history project. 

The work of radio continental drift takes place on the intersection of sound art, radio drama, media activism, acoustic education and literacy, oral history, community radio and digital communities. At each point of its journey, a project seeks creative and collective ways to exploit the opportunities of digital media for transmitting a story together with the toolbox and infrastructure of its production – be it locally, in collective media projects, or on-line for a global audience. The resulting compositions, radio dramas, trailers and mixes of radio continental drift invite a listener in to a space where “I can hear myself listening”... an awareness about listening as an imaginative, productive and creative act.
