Notes on learning

Branching in, branching out is a new program of Radio Robida that wants to explore collective learning, situated pedagogies and embodied knowledge practices as ways of propagating new realities. The title comes from an interpretation of the etymology of the verb to educate – latin educere, to draw out, take out but also branch out.
Branching in, branching out is a double movement of reaching and encountering what is afar, being inspired and open to different discourses, but at the same time going into what we have an affection to, rooting ourself, being activated and moved by what stays in our proximity, leaning on the landscape and learning from it.

Annette Krauss works as an artist, writer, and educator. She has (co-)initiated various long-term collaborative practices such as Hidden Curriculum, Sites for Unlearning etc which we will talk about today, which aim at disrupting taken for granted truths in imagining and living forms of collectivity. She worked as course leader of the Master of Fine Art at the University of Arts in Utrecht ad since 2023 has been part of a co-professorship for Art and Communication Practices at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
In the show we talked about her latest book "Unlearning Routines of the Impossible", published by Casco Art Institute in 2025.

The third episode is a journey into Alberto di Lenardo Works: “An Attic Full of Trains” by Carlotta di Lenardo, published by Mack Books (2020). “One day during a family lunch he revealed to Carlotta di Lenardo, another of his not very secret passions – his enduring love for photography – and shared with her his archive of more than 8,000 photographs: a body of vernacular work capturing over half a century of life in vivid colour. ”Alberto’s work reminds us of the typical scenarios of Italian films: nuance, shades and sounds alternate between the most important soundtracks of our bel paese.

How to imagine a radio station which is located in a super-remote place – Topolò/Topolove, with its 22 inhabitants – but will speak to a wide community, scattered in the whole Europe? How could the geographical marginality be interpreted to develop a radio program which is contextual but also speaks to the world?

Radio stations are many times place and community makers. Besides being aethereal – as the voice of the speakers – they many times happen to be physical spaces for people to gather. They are means to cultivate communities. The paradox of starting a radio station in an almost uninhabited village on the mountains opens many fertile questions about Robida’s community and its relation to this specific margin where Robida works and partly lives. How would it be possible to combine a hyper-specificity, which Robida is fond of, with the will of being relevant for those who are far away from us?
