Through deep rhythmical mediations, Midge Thompson's first EP emerges on his own imprint Dance Protocol, crafted with the intent to enthrall the dance floor. The A-side unveils a relentless intensity, with sub-bass lines echoing the lost era of raves, each beat a testament to a harsher reality.
Conversely, the B-side invites a party atmosphere, its bubbling bassline and dynamic drums offering an escape from the mundane. 
First you must open your mind then your body.

Dance Protocol - Warm Up EP (DPRO-001)

Mariano Mateljan is a Croatian DJ and producer who has long been a key figure in his country's underground electronic music scene. Growing up in Split during the 90s and early 2000s, his musical journey was shaped by the city's thriving club culture, which introduced him to a wide spectrum of sounds, from house to techno and drum’n’bass. Known for his deep, groovy, and minimalistic style, Mariano has established himself as both a DJ and label head, launching the u.dig imprint to showcase like-minded artists. His work has earned him widespread respect, with support from industry heavyweights like Ricardo Villalobos and Sonja Moonear, while his releases and remixes continue to push the boundaries of electronic music.

This project, codenamed Babylon 5, is a hybrid fusion of late 80s and early 90s Goa trance and progressive trance, colliding head-on with the raw energy of deep house, new beat, and acid house from the same era. Timeless influences, modern engineering crafted to push the boundaries of harmony, speed, and style. This time, the contrast is darker, the pulse is heavier, and the sonic weapons are sharper.

The music will first be available in digital format, a gateway to the upcoming vinyl editions, each one a unique, exclusive artifact for the true believers. HERO U.D.A. aka Hiroyoshi Udaka is not someone you can easily google, but he’s sure lived a life worth retelling. His story starts back in the late 80s when, inspired by the acid house emanating from the UK — during what was fondly christened the Second Summer of Love — he picked up DJing and made the move from Japan to London. Throughout the 90s he DJed at underground techno institutions like London’s The End, CLUB UK and Silver Fish, as well as at the infamous Tribal Gathering raves, periodically returning to Japan to support techno greats like Colin Dale, Mad Mike, Suburban Knight and D. Wynn on tour.
The tracks on this EP, previously unreleased except for one, were all recorded after Udaka moved back from London to Tokyo, between 2002 and 2005. Yet they sound strikingly modern, drawing on a rich range of sounds that have come back round again two decades later: broken beat, acid jazz, dub and breaks. Deceptively simple grooves are given depth by layers of textures and micro samples, for example the surface noise on ‘On The Way’ that glues together an otherwise sparse skeleton of dubby pads and body popping drums. ‘Mature Missile’, ‘So Good’ and ‘Night Driver’ employ raw broken beat templates with acid accents, whimsical melodies and vocal interjections for a playful mood. ‘Sin City’ takes a darker turn, off-key piano hits and plunging bass adding to the wonkiness. The EP closes with a wiggly vignette, ‘222AM’, reminiscent of early 00s contemporaries like Mouse On Mars. Now these hidden treasures from Udaka’s archive gain a new life on SAISEI.

SAISEI is a Japanese word which translates to ‘reproduction’ and ‘to play’ (as in playing records). Japanese culture is widely known for its traditional nature just as much as it is for being forward into the future and this label’s concept does justice to exactly that. Having started digging for records as early as 16 years old, Junki Inoue delved into productions from 1990s Japan to uncover these native gems. SAISEI’s core concept is to recapture and reintroduce unique pieces of Japanese electronic music onto vinyl, to an audience it never reached before as most of this music was only released in Japan.

Enjoy a top mix with perhaps our favourite intro to date...

1) Introduce yourself?

Mark Bailey- Educator, bleep merchant, terrible drinking buddy. An old hat sometimes mistaken for a new kid on the block.

2) How would you describe your sound?

Consumerist techno, EBM, Dark Disco, there are plenty of names you could give it but I try to avoid the term 'chug'. It sounds like a drinking game... Or the breed of my dog. If the sound were an image it would probably be a H.R Giger painting reimagined by Caspar David Friedrich.
 
3) What are your plans for 2016?

Make music, vote in the referendum, raise my boy and bring another into the world with the lovely wife. I have two eps forthcoming on Nein round about August and a few remixes forthcoming as well, if only I could just finish them!

Micky, Matt, Nick and myself met through music and playing out in Bournemouth, soon discovering that we were on same tip we formed a little collective and eclectics was born.. It started with an eclectics music page on FB a place for people to share their more diverse musical taste.. We found all sorts was getting posted Balearic, Aor, World, Disco, House, Latin, Mixes, Events, It is and has become a hub for music lovers alike.

The music group was formed in July 2015.. Since then we have done pop-up's, collaborations, Somerley Tea festival, Radio Shows and had a residency. June of last year we set up our blog site, www.eclectics.co its more of a platform and a place to post mixes from DJ's and producers we know and love, old and new.

Whats next? We have been asked to play at Alfresco festival www.alfrescofestival.co.uk this coming May.. Also we are launching our own Label around Summer time and have a great Artist lined up for our début release.. Things have moved very quickly and is done by us as a labor of love…….. eclectics promoting well being through the medium of music.
