We’re extremely thrilled to welcome @shespellsdoom to our Soundcloud Invite series! We’ve been following him for many years and feel extremely happy to present you with an incredible mix for Kulture Lab. His development has been spectacular and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead for SHE Spells Doom. 

SHE Spells Doom is an experimental Electronic music project created by Zambian producer, Wamya Tembo. It draws inspiration from a number of his influences, such as 80s Sci-Fi/Horror movies, (Congolese) Rhumba/Soukous, Gqom and early 2000s Rap production, which he mixes with House and Techno elements he picked up from his time living in Geneva, Switzerland. 

His style can best be described as hazy but driving - usually seeking to create a visceral atmosphere without neglecting the dancefloor by combining trademark airy synth-lines with heavy drum programming.

The past few years have seen him release work on labels such as Creme Records, Monstart, Sweat Equity, HTS, All Centre and Tresor.. Watch out for his upcoming release with the amazing All Centre and other interesting collaborations.

EQUISS - September 2022

It’s Latin Heritage Month, an annual celebration of the cultures and contributions of Latin American and Hispanic communities. 

We’ll be commemorating the occasion with a series of mixes spotlighting regional styles and music traditions past and present, presented by a selection of contemporary artists. 

Today’s mix, which lands on Mexican Independence Day (16 September), comes from Mexico City-based juke producer Sonido Berzerk. Coming in at just shy of 90 minutes, his offering touches on all shades of club music and makes for a pretty irresistible listen.

Like the first kiss beneath sodium streetlights after a night of unsaid things, “Insatiable” by Thanksmate arrives with a kind of nervous elegance - trembling yet sure, dripping with the sweaty allure of nostalgia and wrapped in the silken scarf of future memories. This debut on Soul Express Records doesn’t just nod to House’s golden past - it dances with it, slow and close, like lovers at a barely-lit afterhour.

Opening with the title track, “Insatiable” is a pulse wrapped in velvet. A raw Chicago House heartbeat beats beneath glitching neon bleeps, while a vocal - somewhere between a prayer and a proposition - threads its way through the smoke. The break slows things down just enough to make you ache for the return of the beat, which lands not with a bang, but with the soft thud of resolution. It’s the sound of a basement dancefloor exhaling. House has rarely sounded this alive, this thirsty, this perfectly unquenched.
