With their new remix of Push's single "Strange World," out now on Terminal M, we checked in with Joyhauser to learn more about their past, present, and future ambitions. To further celebrate their new track and pay homage to 20 years of Monika Kruse's iconic techno imprint, Joyhauser has put together a behemoth hour of Terminal M classics and slammers via an exclusive mix.

🌞 💓 🌞 💓 Hello my dear friends 🌞 💓 🌞 💓

   An epic, one hour and a half long adventure, this week is coming from Japan and one of my favourite balearic producer Max Essa. It's the sun-kissed sound of Balearica for which he's probably best-known and reflecting Max's “constant desire for summer skies and proximity to the ocean".
 
   Yokohama resident Max Essa has turned out a reliably excellent stream of musical delights since way back in the '90s – featuring a broad spectrum of sounds from house to cosmic disco on labels including Paper Recordings, Warp Recordings, Bear Funk, Not An Animal, and his own Jansen Jardin imprint.  Residencies in Tokyo’s most beloved and vibe-rich venues – including Bonobo and Aoyama Tunnel – and continues to perform across Japan and internationally.
   His later work, for labels like Is It Balearic? Recordings, went on to be play-listed by the likes of Andrew Weatherall and the late David Mancuso, gaining him a devoted following and DJ bookings around the world.

   Albums for the Japanese major label, Victor Entertainment ('Vacations Never Taken' 2015) and Music For Dreams ('Lanterns' 2018), plus EPs for the Italian label, Hell Yeah! Recordings and a constant stream of remixes, have shown him to be a deeply imaginative and prolific producer.

   2020 sees Max continue his hectic weekly DJ schedule in Tokyo, as well as playing the length and breadth of Japan. Releases are scheduled this year for Hell Yeah! Recordings, Music For Dreams and Jansen Jardin.

He has a new release upcoming  on Is It Balearic? Recordings - Jigsaw Moon/Jules Y Cynthia (inc Eddie C remixes) so keep eye on it.

'Audio Diaries' follows the innovative and expansive journey of London artist, Bassically. Written in isolation in a self-established, improvised studio during the pandemic. Bassically is one of many projects masterminded by Raz Olsher, the founder of Fossil Studios. Raz has worked with the likes of Gilles Peterson, Lemar and M. J. Cole and recently writes as Raz & Afla; A new exciting musical duo making waves on the UK Afrobeat scene. This stunning new album came about when Raz, stranded in quarantine on a remote beach in Thailand, challenged himself to write a track every day through the month of April. The 30 resulting tracks have been narrowed down to 13 and are now presented on this immersive journey into the mind of a musical mystic. The audio journal takes listeners on a deep adventure through a dynamic range of UK dance genres. Raz’s vision and project attracted the attention of e-instruments and Electronic Groove, amongst others, who requested to interview him. In this inspirational interview, Raz speaks of his COVID-19 period as one of seclusion and incubation in which he overcame adversity to grow and create. The resulting three-minute video has been approved by the UN’s Office for Partnerships as part of a World Health Organisation’s messaging campaign, using one of Raz’s quarantine compositions as the sound track. “I was confronted every morning by a blank canvas which excited me immensely.      Nevena Stankovic aka Tsunamica is a digger, selector, vinyl collector, journalist, radio host, DJ, party starter... but above all, an absolute music lover with a PhD in Political Science from Belgrade, Serbia.

    Her interest in music began very early, as a child, she started to play the piano and completed music school. Her love for music developed rapidly as well as modern technology, the piano was soon replaced by turntables and music consoles. 

     If we have to choose a word that represents her style and vision, that would be “eclectic”. She plays whatever suits her at the moment, her sound is seductive that goes from the most elegant downtempo and chillout to deep hypnotic and Balearic beats. Passing through a slow-burning cosmic disco, acid house, and freaky space sounds ‘till explosive Italo bombs and late 70s and 80s the wildest disco and Yugo jewels which is resulting in a cosmic mixture that makes her sets a real interplanetary experience.

    She likes to blend genres and epochs, strong beats with smooth acid-tinged melodies, traditional and ethnic with modern and tribal sounds. Her exotic downtempo and slo-mo selections are influenced by a multitude of cultures from around the world. A fusion of musical styles and her solar mood are always keeping her in good vibes and well connected with the club crowds, whilst the club scene is paying attention to what comes next on her turntables. 

     DJ-ing for more than 10 years and involved in the underground music scene for over 15 years, there are no Dj names of the scene's prime movers and shakers that she has not been involved alongside with them in some way - hosting, djing, promoting.
 Inspired and learned from the best such as Jose Padilla, DJ Harvey, Todd Terje, Derrick Carter, Andrew Weatherall, Sean Johnston, Phil Mison, Kenneth Bager, Gilles Peterson, Felix Dickinson, Richard Sen, Justin Strauss, Juan MacLean, Eric Duncan, Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Sasha and many more, her selections and mixing are skillful, recognizable and very unique, guided by the heart. Nevena's favourite artist include Curses, Cosmo Vitelli, Manfredas, Scott Fraser to name a few.

      Currently, she is broadcasting a weekly radio show about Balearic and chillout music, named The Sunset Lovers on Ibiza radio, where she is showcasing regular mixes from high-caliber guests. She is also hosting another resident show 'Cosmic Carousel' on radio D59B, where she is presenting more obscure cosmic disco records taking her audience on real intergalactic journeys.
