Josh Cheon grew up in northern New Jersey, just outside New York City
where he spent his weekends dancing at goth clubs and digging for
records. He moved to San Francisco in 2006 and joined gay DJ
collective Honey Soundsystem from 2007 to 2017. His love of
underground ‘80s music pushed him to start Dark Entries in 2009, a
record label specializing in reissuing lost music from that era as
well as contemporary bands referencing those analog sounds.

Episode 002 of PLOT MIX is now up on the cloud. This time with NYC based @eugeniadj. You can expect a wistful and dusky mix radiating opalescent energies. The Bay Area DIY scene nourished Eugenia’s roots as an artist from her early 20s, where she began to develop a dynamic sound marked with a shimmering, heart-forward touch. Her sets are reflective and textural, soaring across genres and energy levels with a whimsical twist, threaded by a consistent minimalistic groove. Upon moving to NYC, she began co-heading queer, psy-forward DIY day-rave RECESS, through which she continued to hone her musical voice and vision as an organizer. Eugenia hosts The Shape of Memory, an experimental mix series inviting artists to transmute core memories into music, re-imagining memory as a living, breathing being which influences our emotions and sense of self.

A statement mix from the Dutch artist also known as A Made Up Sound, 2562 and ex_libris. 

What makes something sound like Dave Huismans? His music carries a signature you can't quite name, a tension which has defined every chapter of his career. And unlike most producers, he really does operate in phases. 

A man of many monikers, Huismans resurfaced this year after nearly a decade away with two new aliases, ex_libris and In Transit. His latest ventures, though sonically a world away from the work under his most recognised projects, share the same slipperiness, intricacy and disregard for tidy genre borders. 

"Naiveté and a lack of prejudice… a really wide-eyed type of open-mindedness," Huismans once told RBMA, recalling his youthful forays into dance music and that ethos is alive and well on RA.1015.

Huismans's second RA Mix is as equally thrilling as his first one 15 years ago, traversing a map of influences from Madlib and Gyrofield to Prince and Autechre.  There's no shortage of atmosphere (Losoul's "Sunbeams and the Rain" is one particular highlight), but the throughline is groove: soulful, vocal deep house into driving techy depths, walls of glitchy drums and frantic percussion into guitar funk. 

"I got carried away a bit," Huismans says of RA.1015 below. And that's no bad thing. It sounds like someone enjoying himself again, and perhaps, after letting a few old skins fall away, Huismans is ready to shift shape once more. And if it's anything like the last time, a lot of good music awaits.

Library Production Music in the CD Age (1987–1997) – Special w/ Gumshoe Discjockey

From forgotten mastering plants to the back rooms of European publishers, the CD age of library music produced a quietly radical body of work — and this month, Gumshoe Discjockey is prying the vault wide open. This special episode stitches together a decade’s worth of cues pulled from UK, German, Austrian, Italian, French, Dutch, Belgian, and Swedish catalogues: discs designed for editors on deadlines, not listeners on headphones.

Armed with digital synths, hardware samplers, and that early-CD sheen, producers chased a new kind of “modern” — functional, frictionless, but shot through with accidental brilliance. What emerged was a kaleidoscope of styles: corporate futurism, chrome-plated funk, pastel ambient drift, proto-techno pulses, and those oddball hybrids that only happen when commercial utility is the brief and creative freedom is the loophole.

These tracks once lived in binders and broadcast libraries; now they resurface like rare artifacts from a parallel pop universe. In this mix, we let the cues breathe, shimmer, and reveal what they always were: snapshots of a Europe in technological motion, crafted for the margins and ripe for rediscovery.
