In sports practice there are always risks of injuries that can incapacitate you for days, months, or even keep you away from physical activity altogether.  

In BTH podcast we will talk about one injury: the concussions. Blows to the head that do not produce structural damage to the brain, but which, if not properly attended to by medical personnel, coaches, and athletes, can eventually trigger serious symptoms for the athlete.  

When this type of trauma becomes repetitive in an athlete's career, over the years a neurodegenerative disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy can develop, a pathology that is almost impossible to diagnose and treat.

Blow to The Head

Chris Benoit was a professional wrestler who ended his life in a tragic and bloody way. He murdered his wife and son and then committed suicide. 

Many hypotheses surfaced after the crime; however, the autopsy revealed a possible cause for his erratic and violent behavior.

Better Lost A Day Than A Season

When a person has received repeated concussions during his or her lifetime, he or she may eventually develop a neurodegenerative disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy. For this pathology, which is usually diagnosed post-mortem, there is no treatment.
