Who is witnessing the hardest periods of history and who is making the story out of it? While girls were granted with the lovely gift of diaries, boys were given notebooks to study, to expand in their own thoughts for then sharing them with the world and participate in the global discourse of legitimate history. We think the time of thoughtful journals is up and in this project we are unlocking diaries as the most important and profound data collections on social and political disasters, we are micing up the stories that are private and sensitive that’s why they will be accessible in the symbolic password mode.

Diary method allows the participant to record it as it occurs (or at least closer to the moment that it occurs). When participants record their observations or perceptions in the moment, we learn something different about their experiences than might be gained from other methods.  Through this project we want to work with the personal documentation of this toughest period on planet Earth with those witnessing it in different problematic contexts.

We invite to participation artists, curators, musicians, art and social theorists from different countries who at one time or another have taken the brunt of instability, armed conflicts, occupation or colonial interventions and work with the relentless and ruthless ongoing social and political systems as abuse. Program set itself the task to speak about social injustice and suffering from imperialism and colonization. It will include various formats: audio, video, images and texts.

Glowing Lands Music Box is our mix for Radio Fantasia. We collected materials from the label's discography, demos of our projects / label residents and tracks that have an understandable and close to us musical imagery and feeling, a sacred presence. Music Box on a damp mountain stone on a foggy morning - ambient, heavenly edits, dynamic and emotional experimental electronics and gentle neoclassical drops are inside of it.

Holodnaya Voda is a St. Petersburg label founded by Arina S. and Alexander P. in 2020. The label brings together musicians and sound artists to create purifying experimental music.

«Неумело дрифтуя по родным подъездам и подвалам, мы как-то столкнулись с самой границей. Теперь перед нами бесконечное поле для игры и удивления. После встречи с настоящими гномами, нам вдруг вспомнится что-то о мире. Вряд ли мы сможем схватить частичку данного нам света. И ничего не останется, как счесть столкновение за сон. Уложить в ящик на чердаке. А для других, обернуть всё в шутку и сказать, что этот микс является абсолютным фристайло.»

Алена Колесо – художница из Москвы, работающая с различными способами наблюдения и документации окружающего мира, а также его отражением в человеческой памяти в виде воспоминаний и ложных воспоминаний. В своей практике Алена в основном использует медиум фотографии. Захватывая свет того или иного события, камера кадрирует возникающие в пространстве источники напряжения, фрагменты или случайности. Затем фотограф ищет между ними рифмы и точки взаимодействия. В своих практиках художница также обращается к графике и различным техникам печати.

Alena Koleso is an artist from Moscow who works with various ways of observing and documenting the surrounding world, as well as its reflection in human memory in the form of flashbacks and false memories. In her practice, Alena mainly uses the medium of photography. Capturing the light of an event, the camera frames the sources of tension, fragments or accidents that occur in space. Then the photographer looks for rhymes and points of interaction between them. In her practices Alena also turns to graphics and various printing techniques.

Они для меня являются элементами, отвлекающими от внешних диссонансов повседневности, будь то шумовых или визуальных. Отправляют в иное пространство. Когда я пишу музыку, уверен, как и многие другие, я оперирую органом, полная власть над которым мне пока/никогда не доступна. Это напоминает мне сон, поэтому ловец снов на обложке, я надеюсь его возможно разглядеть».

«The tracks are chosen in contrast: noisy and not so much, emotionally violent and unhurried, but some almost imperceptible similarity in the method of immersion in the musical context, with sometimes completely opposite instruments, unites them strikingly. For me, they are elements that distract from the external dissonances of everyday life, whether noise or visual. They are sending us to another space. When I write music, I am sure, like many others, I operate an organ while the full power over it is still/never available to me. It reminds me of a dream, so the dreamcatcher is on the cover, I hope it is possible to see it».

The AIR Krew members made a mix of recordings which are the result of both joint and individual work of the collective's four musicians. По каким-то неведомым и замечательным причинам в умеренных лесах Европы самый красивый в мире весенний хор птиц. Здесь самое активное и стройное пение, здесь лучшие певцы: певчие и чёрные дрозды, обыкновенные соловьи, зарянки, садовые славки и славки-черноголовки. К сожалению, мне, занимающемуся пением птиц 30 лет ясно, что самый безупречный весенний хор в лесах средней полосы России был в недалёком прошлом. А сейчас он, конечно, ослаб. Не без усилий человека леса наши сильно поредели, численность даже обычных птиц снизилась, а некоторые виды практически исчезли. Например, с начала двухтысячных годов не слышал я голоса обыкновенной горлицы. Только в старом кино теперь звучит бесконечная песня огромной стаи лебедей, летящих на север. Теперь-то лебеди летят не очень большими стаями. Все эти изменения, конечно, сказались на птичьих хорах, на том, что мы слышим весной в лесу. Представьте, вы на концерте симфонического оркестра, а некоторых инструментов, например ударных, нет вовсе, да и скрипки играют не все. 
И всё же весна у нас звучит необыкновенно. Шесть лет я собирал голоса птиц лесов, лугов и болот для этого диска, ездил в Чувашию, бродил по Московской и Тверской областям. А больше всего времени провёл в окрестностях Рдейского заповедника в Новгородской области, где встретил шесть вёсен. Приходилось записывать птиц, стоя среди разливов рек, на краях болот, среди ковров весенних первоцветов, ранними звенящими утрами и тихими вечерами, тёплыми днями и лунными ночами.

The Elektricheskaya Sobaka band members have compiled recordings from their live performances. A year ago, the musicians deliberately refused to rehearse together, so all their interaction takes place during live sets. It was documented in the mix – electroacoustic swirls, crumbling and sinking rhythms, tickling the ears with electronic sound.

Команда Радио Фантазии выступает против войны в Украине и российского режима, который развязал её. Мы верим в то, что музыка не может быть вне политики. С начала войны мы были в оцепенении, пытались понять, какими могут быть наши действия, возможны ли они, на что они могут быть направлены. Мы остановились. К моменту выпуска данного сборника мы смогли пересобраться, очертить свои возможности в ситуации войны. Нам важно совершать действие – не замирать в ужасе, давая действовать тем, кто пользуется этим для разжигания и продления военных действий. Мы создаем импульс и надеемся, что он найдет выход в разных точках реальности.

Мы благодарим всех наших друзей и коллег, которые почувствовали в себе силы, чтобы принять участие в сборнике, и предоставили свою музыку. Все собранные нами средства пойдут в организацию helpingtoleave.org.

Мы считаем важным также борьбу в других формах. Существуют разные способы гражданского сопротивления, например, таким способом является распространение информации о войне и четкое и недвусмысленное выражение гражданской позиции.

Мы делимся ссылками, которые могут быть полезны и тем, кто испытывает страх и беспокойство, находясь в пределах российских границ, и тем, кто находится за границей.

The Radio Fantasia team is against the war in Ukraine and the Russian regime that unleashed it. We believe that music cannot be outside politics. Since the beginning of the war, we have been in a daze, trying to understand what our actions could be, whether they are possible, what they can be aimed at. We stopped. By the time of the release of this compilation, we tried to reassemble ourselves, to understand our capabilities in a war situation. It is important for us to take action – not to freeze in horror, giving action to those who use it to incite and prolong the war. We create an impulse and hope that it will find a way out at different points in reality.

We thank all our friends and colleagues who felt strong enough to take part in the collection and provided their music. All the funds we have collected will go to the organization helpingtoleave.org 

We also consider it important to fight in other forms. There are different ways of civil resistance, for example, way of dissemination of information about the war and a clear and unambiguous expression of the position.

02 – ннадо знать (team mekano)

The most powerful impression, probably, was a conversation with Tsovinar, an ornithologist, her emphasized communication in English, “why everyone leaves when you need to resist”, and before that, Oksana Timofeeva’s foreword about how a bird crosses the border and philosopher’s envy for her. There was also Armash (artificial ponds with carps for deliveries to the Russian Federation, formed by water forcibly removed from the lake), the border with Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iran. “There is Azerbaijan ... and there is Iran ..., and Ararat itself is Turkey, and in this part, to the right of the top, Noah’s Ark was hooked,” Tsovinar said. I was probably waiting for this on / off voice and security. But the music, the writing - it all seemed very hidden to me, such a careful sound in the temples, in the Chamber Hall, in the Matenaderan museum. And yes, I also went nuts from one photo, from a look, more precisely, from Komitas in this photo. For me, the gaze usually takes away, all the memory of what is happening flows there, like hypnosis. But here it was completely different, there was recognition and the flow in the other direction.

Самым мощным впечатлением, наверное, был разговор с Цовинар — орнитологом — её жесткий наезд и подчеркнутое общение на английском, «почему все уезжают, когда надо сопротивляться», и до этого прочитанное предисловие Оксаны Тимофеевой про то, как птица пересекает границу и зависть к ней философа. Еще был Армаш (искусственные пруды с карпами для поставок в РФ, образованные насильно уведенной из озера водой), граница с Турцией, Азербайджаном и Ираном. «Вон Азербайджан... а вон Иран..., а сам Арарат — это Турция и вооон в этой части справа от вершины зацепился Ноев Ковчег», — говорила Цовинар. Ну, то есть, это было все одновременно и очевидно. Все сложилось вместе как контур. А внутри яркое солнце и картины Сарьяна, вид с балкона на Арарат, вкусная еда, соленое озеро и арочные своды из туфа.  

Я, наверное, ждала этого вкл/выкл голос и безопасность. А вот музыка, письмо — это все мне показалось очень сильно укрытым, такое бережное звучание в храмах камерном зале, музее Матенадеран. А да, еще я охуела от одного фото, от взгляда точнее, Комитаса на этом фото. Для меня обычно взгляд отнимает, туда утекает вся память о происходящем, как гипноз. А здесь совсем по-другому было, было узнавание и в другую сторону поток.

Karen(Kay)Khachatryan – sound artist and an experimental musician from Yerevan. Since 2002 active in different punk bands as a musician. Since 2010 he have been producing experimental music. As a base for his work he uses field recordings, as well as electromagnetic sounds that he record using devices he is builing by himself.

Айхал Аммосов — один из наиболее известных якутских антивоенных активистов. С начала войны он получил пять административок и одну уголовку — за одиночные пикеты, антивоенные граффити и стикеры. Суд над Айхалом по уголовному делу должен был пройти 23 ноября. Но за полчаса до начала заседание перенесли на 13 декабря.

Since the beginning of the war, Ammosov has received five administrative and one criminal penalty: for single pickets, anti-war graffiti and stickers. Aikhal's trial was scheduled on November 23. “Some Things Cannot Be Fixed” By Steff Juniper / QUIVERING
 
Some things cannot be fixed for they have been shattered into too many small pieces to be glued back together. There are not enough Good Samaritans, Foreign Aid, or Help that can resolve social issues like War, Poverty, and Climate Disaster. There are some things that are gone and lost forever, like people, and their spirits. Entire Species Have Gone Extinct. What do we do about that? Where do we go from here?
 
This piece is comprised of field recordings in Canada, America and Sicily in 2022 by Steff Juniper. “The Strangest Dream” is a famous anti-war song written during the Korean War by American Folk Singer Ed McCurdy in 1950. The song had its first album release when Pete Seeger recorded it as "Strangest Dream" for his 1956 album Love Songs For Friends & Foes. It has been recorded by 50 acts in English and translated into more than 80 languages.

Некоторые вещи невозможно починить или склеить, потому что они разбились на слишком много мелких кусочков. Не хватает добрых самаритян, гуманитарной помощи и специалистов, которые могли бы решить социальные проблемы, такие как война, бедность и климатические катастрофы. Տոտալ վերաիմաստավորման ճանապարհն իմ կյանքում սկսվեց 2018-ից: Մարմնով, մտքով, զգացողություններովմի օրգանիզմ դարձանք ("հեղափոխություն"): Կարճատև երջանկություն, որին հաջորդեց հիասթափությունն ումշտաներկա պատերազմը, որի գոյությունն ու ավերիչ ուժը ես խորապես չէի գիտակցել մինչ 2020 թվականը: 2019-ից ամբողջ աշխարհը կանգնեց: Տարօրինակ, ու հաջորդիվ, խորը արտաշնչի նման թեթևացնողզգացողություն էր "հեղափոխության" բուռն ապրումներից ու հաջորդիվ տարօրինակ տարվանից հետո: Ինձթվաց, թե "էս ա breaking point-ը" դեպի գլոբալիզացիա, աշխարհի բացություն, համերաշխություն, քանի որամբողջ աշխարհը խոցելիության փոռձառության մեջ ա ու դա կյանքի վերաիմաստավորման հիմք ա, փիլիսոփայության ու ռեֆլեկսիայի ժամանակ: Հետո պարզվեց որ էդ ամբողջ աշխարհը իմ գլխում ա (ու էլի ինչ-որմարդկանց): Նոր իրավիճակով ինձ ճանաչեցի լրիվ նոր կողմից:

 Փուլեր են եղել, երբ ինքս իմ մտքերի թակարդի մեջ էի զգում ու գիտակցելով հանդերձ անզոր էի դուրս գալէդտեղից ու տագնապի զգացողությունից բացի ուրիշ ոչինչ չէր կատարվում ներսումս: Հետո եկավ ավելի դաժանփուլ՝ ապատիա, հուզականության, ցանկության բացակայություն, բութ վիճակ:

DIARY PAGE of Kani Kamil

Here is the text of one of my pieces, Masculine Hanger and also I have attached a few photos, Textiles have played a major role in the interconnections of the social, cultural and economic life of Iraqi Kurdistan. From making clothes to weaving rugs, the production of textiles was mostly executed by invisible and often unpaid labour by women. For instance, for a specific men’s Kurdish expensive Kurdish costume called ‘Shall’, a significant period of time and production is needed in order to prepare the raw material (the animal hair) to weave a ‘Shall’ fabric. The final handprint and selling process, however, belongs to men, superseding the work of women. Reproducing a (300cm x 17cm) shall fabric out of my hair is to articulate the notion of unpaid labourers and mundane jobs of women through a local product.

Kani is a visual artist and performer of experimental sound with hair. Born and raised in Iraq, she currently lives and works in London.
Her works signify the relentless and ruthless ongoing social and political systems of abuse in Iraqi Kurdish society, representing and embodying the hidden specific societal issues through her hair and voice to challenge the stereotype. Her interest is around stories that have never been told or heard, and history that has never been recorded, translating and decoding these stories into art and using art as a tool for social critique is the method in her artistic practice with using investigating form to reveal the unrevealed side of the stories, therefore the listening process is a major part of her practice.
She employs human hair as the main material as a tool for the entanglement of many perspectives and politics and converges personal stories through it as a protest against this stigma that never disappears against a specific gender in that society. Producing work through photography, installation, video performance and sound. 

Since 2015, her works have been exhibited in galleries and institutions including the National Museum NOMUS in Gdansk, Poland(2021), (Babylon Cinema as Moviemento, Kreuzberg and FSK Kino) in Berlin, Middle East Institute, Washington
D.C(2019), V&A London, Manchester art gallery the UK, Institute of fine art Iraq, Reykjavik Art Museum in Iceland, woman made Gallery (WMG) Chicago.
Kani also holds an MA in [fine art] from Middlesex University, London, with the artist Sonia Boyce as her tutor. She is currently studying for a PhD in [fine art] at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Cani Lenti is a collection of duels, some may say. As the two minds of Cesare Lopopolo and Anna Vezzosi converge, a dichotomy of harmonious and contrasting sounds ebb, swirl and clatter in and amongst themselves. Using techniques from call and response improvisation, tape manipulation, experimental music and free-form folk, their approach to music making feels both atypical and familiar, organised and free-flowing, rooted and landless. Like the films of fellow Italian film-maker Alice Rohrwacher, Rosso Polare's music feels grounded in the earth, but sprouts and spreads in strange and often anachronistic ways.
The duo describe this album as it’s a struggle – a skirmish – that strives to resemble filmic sonorisations and forgotten sounds. Together they lead us on a journey into the depths of Chthonian Music.

Rosso Polare is Cesare Lopopolo and Anna Vezzosi, a contemporary improv duo from Milan, Italy, drawing from their complementary environments (the Italian countryside vs the city) to create a highly personal musical language merging field recordings, folklore and audio manipulation. Having both studied visual arts, their
approach is equally rooted in a deep theoretical background, as well as an intuitive élan, while focused on researching counter-narratives regarding the depiction of the animal world. They strive to normalize the levels
between human-produced music and natural biophony by making the listener aware of their indigenousness to nature.
 
In 2020, they released their debut Lettere Animali via the Moscow-based label and collective Klammklang, followed by Cani Lenti via Cafe Oto’s in-house label Takuroku and later reissued by ADN Records. They played at festivals and venues across Europe, including Cafe Oto, Météo - Mulhouse Music Festival, Klang - Roma, Spazio Contemporanea - Brescia, BääFest - Milano as well as online events such as The Quarantine Tapes by Chicago’s Experimental Sound Studio.

Kasha Potrohosh is a visual artist from Ukraine, currently based in Bratislava. Kasha studies intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts and concentrates her creative endeavors on intermedia projects. While she has a wide range of solo activities and projects, Kasha is also a participant in the MAPSN performative group. In her works, Kasha often uses textile as a medium and a camouflage element. Her themes intersect with the subjective experience with the themes of death, autotherapy, and reflections on social issues.

Cedrik Fermont (aka C-drík, Kirdec, Cdrk) is a Berlin-based Belgian-Congolese composer, musician, mastering engineer, author, radio host, concert organiser, independent researcher and label manager (at Syrphe) who operates in the field of noise, electronic and experimental music since 1989.
His compositions and installations vary from sound art and electroacoustic to noise, to
industrial to more conventional “dance” music such as electronica or acid and so on ;
solo and in collaborative projects (as Axiome, Tasjiil Moujahed, Ambre, with Marie
Takahashi, Luong Hue Trinh, Yan Jun, Mick Harris, Mark Spybey, Gülce Özen Gürkan and many more artists). He has toured extensively in Eurasia, Africa and North America, and his main research focuses on electronic, electroacoustic, experimental and noise music from Asia and Africa – history, sociocultural context and decolonisation.
He composed music for sound installations, theatre and choreographies, including collaborations with Robyn Orlin, Guangdong Modern Dance Company (GMDC) and Dao Anh Khanh.
In 2017 he released together with Dimitri della Faille the book Not Your World Music
about noise music in South-East Asia, winner of the 2017 "Golden Nica" Prix Ars
Electronica in the "Digital Musics & Sound Art" category.
In 2005, his soundtrack for the experimental film Atalodz directed by Gisèle pape won the best prize at Côté Court festival, Paris/Montreuil, France.

Fred Horton – Sounds of the Moment (Summer 2022)

From the ripped audio of still videos taken during the summer of 2022, this study splices a new sonic journey from the absence of the visual image. The framing of everyday happenings and oddities (moments) form the ever-changing surroundings, inspiring the architectural and photographic practice of the artist. One can wander through each fleeting soundscape, letting one pass as another one comes. 

Fred Horton (b.1998) currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany. He studied Architecture and Fine Arts at the Rhode Island School of Design in the USA. The artist's work focuses on the framing of moments, the spatial experience of the body through time and space, and how the architectural and photographic medium can simultaneously clarify and obscure the reality of things. His work, typically in the form of a study, strives to be spatial and performative rather than constructive and objective.

Фред Хортон (р.1998) – художник и архитектор из Берлина, выпускник школы дизайна Род-Айленда. В своей практике сосредоточен на фиксации момента и восприятии тела во времени и пространстве. Фред работает с архитектурной и фотографической средами, одновременно выделяя и маскируя объекты в них. Свои исследования стремится делать пространственными и перформативными, и не основывать их на конструктивности и объектности.

Из разорванного звука и статичных видеороликов, снятых летом 2022 года, эта работа собирает новое звуковое путешествие и изображение в одно целое. Фиксация рутинных действий и событий (моментов) формирует постоянно меняющееся окружение, влияя на фото и архитектурную практику художника. Блуждая по коридорам звукового ландшафта, мы плавно переходим из одного момента в  другой.

Bint Mbareh (Dina Amro) is a sound researcher with a curiosity about the superpowers of communal singing. Her initiation into music came through her research on rain-summoning in Palestine. She conducted research initially to combat the myth of water scarcity pushed by Israeli settler colonialism. She learned that the songs that helped communities summon and harness rain, at their core helped people build a relationship with their environment, decide what time of year it is, communally determine how to share resources fairly, and that when used in current life, these uses could still be evoked, rather than remembered. She now studies death and rebirth as analogies for necessary upheavals, still looking for these significations in Palestinian landscape, especially the shrine of Nabi-Musa (AS), the prophet Moses.

She has performed at Mophradat's Read the Room festival (March 2022), Hoda Siahtiri’s symposium on Loss and Resilience (No Body’s Body) (April, 2022), at the Hiya Live Sessions in Dalston’s Jago (May 2022) London EFG Jazz Festival and AWAN, Ramallah's Exist Festival, has been resident with BUDA Kunstcentrum and performed at Next Festival, twice in the same year at Shubbak festival, proudly at Stonewall to Palestine, Brave Poets, as well as being Cafe Oto's Youth Music Resident for 2021.

Bint Mbareh - исследовательница звука, работающая сверхспособностями коллективного пения. Ее взаимодействие со звуковыми практиками произошло благодаря ее исследованиям ритуальных обрядов по вызову дождя в Палестине. Изначально она проводила работала с темами, которые были направлены на борьбу с мифом о нехватке воды, навязанным колониализмом израильских поселенцев. Песни, которые помогали вызывать дождь, по своей сути помогали людям выстраивать отношения с окружающей средой, решать, какое сейчас время года, совместно определять, как равноценно распределять их ресурсы. Сейчас художница изучает практики связанные со смертю и возрождением как аналогию необходимых потрясений, основывая исследование на палестинских архивах и ландшафтах и священных местах, например такими как Наби Муса пророка Моисея.

Дина представлял свои работы на фестивале Mophradat's Read the Room festival  в марте 2022, Hoda Siahtiri’s symposium on Loss and Resilience (No Body’s Body (апрель 2022). Andriy Kostyukov is a Kyiv-born and Prague-based electronic musician and dj.
First of all, his attention is devoted to creating music. Andriy skillfully combines experimental bass, leftfield, and IDM. His exclusive works could be heard at Paris Fashion Week 2019 and at many leading events in Ukraine. Some of the key ones were the “Brudnyy Pes” and “Na Chasi” festivals in Kyiv, “ODS” in Odesa, and “Voyage Culturel” in Kharkiv. Speaking of dj sets, Andriy has established a strong musical position between trippy techno and upbeat glitch bass stuff. His selection was appreciated in the club ∄ (Kyiv), Re:mise (Berlin), Kultura Zvuku (Kharkiv), Otel' (Kyiv), Factory (Odesa).
He is a co-organizer of the Motsion — one of the first musical events that began charitable activities in Kyiv after the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine.

Прежде всего, Андрiй сосредоточен на создании музыки. Художник отметился EP "For fishes that think they are swimming in the void" и в последствии аудиовизуальной коллаборацией "For fishes..." совместно с PRYVYD, которая была сделана на основе нескольких треков с альбома. Андрiй умело сочетает экспериментальный бас, лефтфилд и IDM. Его коммишны можно было услышать на неделе моды в Париже 2019 года и на многих ведущих мероприятиях в Украине, таких как фестивали «Брудний пес» и «На часі» в Киеве, одесском ODS и Voyage Culturel в Харькове. Говоря о диджей селекции, Андрiй работает на стыке между триппи-техно и апбит глитч-басом. Его селекции звучали в club ∄ (Киев), Re:mise (Берлин), Kultura Zvuku (Харьков), Hotel' (Киев), Factory (Одесса).

Также Андрiй является соорганизатором Motsion (@motsion_ua) - одного из первых серийных звуковых ивентов, которое начало благотворительную деятельность в Киеве после начала полномасштабного российского вторжения в Украину.

Noise, chaos, and feedback are prominent elements in the Tagi’s compositional and installation works, often interweaving with soundscapes of natural environments. He is a part of the cross-media duo the2vvo, which often explores the complicated dynamics between the objects, spaces and sound through recordings, acoustic sculptures, and live audio-visual performances.

Extra-genre community radio «Fantasia» originated by Typography center workers is to create a platform to speak openly about actual problems of the world society and archive materials collected by artists, curators, journalists, art and social theorists, sonic researchers and sound poets. 

We also consider it important to fight in various forms. There are different ways of civil resistance, for example, way of dissemination of information about the war, conflicts, discrimination and a clear and unambiguous expression of the positions.
