Following on from the 2016 Korea Undok Group compilation LP Penultimate Press is proud to release the follow up, Senescence. Covering material recorded in the last two and a half years, this new cd comprises 50% works previously available on private tiny run cassettes and 50% works made for an abandoned lp. Abandoned being a good word to use again here as this collection of barley-there trace element songs and decaying acoustic snapshots will leave the listener with a sensation not so dissimilar to the feeling abandonment conjures.

Please note there has been zero mastering on this release as we wanted it to sound as shit as possible.

A multitude of processes, techniques, and forms unfold and unfurl within the work of Méryll Ampe,
an intermedia artist from Paris working through sound, sculpture, and installation using a wide assortment
of materials. What is immediately striking about Ampe’s work is the vibrant, non-linear approach to
electro-acoustic composition.
Here on the debut for Misanthropic Agenda, Ampe liberally reconfigures / deconstructs / genetically mutates
all sources: hydrophone recordings of vibrations through skin, analog synths, tape machinations,
sequencing programmed through algorithmic variability, and plenty of digital processing.
As Ampe describes it, the music on W7E is "a research with an experimental dimension, guided by notions that
systematically translate a form of ambivalence, between inside/outside, micro/macro. These intentions are
vectors of the dynamics, reliefs, depths and rhythm. My training as a visual artist also leads me to go through
mental images (such as a steep landscape, a boiling organism, an organic matter) which will then find a
sound form, states that I would describe as syncope, sound effluvia, abrasive arrhythmias. I look for a form of
plasticity in the sound medium, and that this energy become a living matter."
This multi-dimensional overlay through composition telescopes in and out of the body (not necessarily always
a human body, it should be noted), through a connectivity with technology that can influence psychological states
of being. The work addresses liminality, transitory slippages, and quantum theories of a particle being the two
separate places at the same time. If that can occur at the atomic level, why not through sound?
W7E stands as a dynamic, polydactyl album reflective of the aesthetics (if not concepts) of Keith Fullerton Whitman,
Francisco Meirino, and Bernard Parmegiani.

Méryll Ampe "Close To"

Cani Lenti is a collection of duels, some may say. As the two minds of Cesare Lopopolo and Anna Vezzosi converge, a dichotomy of harmonious and contrasting sounds ebb, swirl and clatter in and amongst themselves. Using techniques from call and response improvisation, tape manipulation, experimental music and free-form folk, their approach to music making feels both atypical and familiar, organised and free-flowing, rooted and landless. Like the films of fellow Italian film-maker Alice Rohrwacher, Rosso Polare's music feels grounded in the earth, but sprouts and spreads in strange and often anachronistic ways.
The duo describe this album as it’s a struggle – a skirmish – that strives to resemble filmic sonorisations and forgotten sounds. Together they lead us on a journey into the depths of Chthonian Music.

Reissued with additional, previously unreleased tracks, Cani Lenti expands on the landscape depicted so far, with the idea of a sonic imagery which feel interstitial between organised “musical” sound and a more unorthodox, earthy and chtonian root linked by field recordings and a human cacophony close to natural biophony.

Rosso Polare is Cesare Lopopolo and Anna Vezzosi, a contemporary improv duo from Milan, Italy, drawing from their complementary environments (the Italian countryside vs the city) to create a highly personal musical language merging field recordings, folklore and audio manipulation. Having both studied visual arts, their
approach is equally rooted in a deep theoretical background, as well as an intuitive élan, while focused on researching counter-narratives regarding the depiction of the animal world. They strive to normalize the levels
between human-produced music and natural biophony by making the listener aware of their indigenousness to nature.
 
In 2020, they released their debut Lettere Animali via the Moscow-based label and collective Klammklang, followed by Cani Lenti via Cafe Oto’s in-house label Takuroku and later reissued by ADN Records. They played at festivals and venues across Europe, including Cafe Oto, Météo - Mulhouse Music Festival, Klang - Roma, Spazio Contemporanea - Brescia, BääFest - Milano as well as online events such as The Quarantine Tapes by Chicago’s Experimental Sound Studio.

Yeun Elez - A Wisp of Straw

Blue Chemise documents the hermetic soundworld of Australia’s Mark Gomes. “Daughters of Time” follows 2017’s brilliant full-length “Influence on Dusk,” released in micro-edition on Gomes’ own Greedy Ventilator imprint. It is an elegiac set of vignettes recorded straight to dictaphone with minimal post-production. For me these pieces function in a manner akin to Loren Connor’s evocative “airs,” conjuring poignant, intangible senses of longing and nostalgia then disappearing well before overstaying their welcome. Regarding their genesis, Gomes points to a quote from Australian artist Robert Hunter: "It's like I'm external to them. They develop their own assertion and character; their becoming finished is a thing they decide themselves. It's unexplainable." LP/Digital available 9/7/2018 via studentsofdecay.com

Immersed in an amniotic atmosphere, we are invited to bathe in the atemporality of the world before birth.

Against a liquid sound background, horizontal sounds intervene that cross space at full speed, stretching time in their course. The speed with which they intervene has the effect of an arrow shot in the direction of a distant future, which brings us back to a linear, horizontal, narrative, historical time, that is to say, to the ordinary world perceived as a successive sequence of events.

The transparency and weightlessness of crystalline sounds act like seraphically elements that connect the fantastic and earthly worlds. At the same time, anecdotal sounds that remind us of specific moments in our lives cross our mind -- liquid, metallic, soft, subtle sounds -- and dense drones mingle to create an experience of their own, each one embedding itself in the personal experience of the listener.

From the beginning we were immersed in this atemporal amniotic atmosphere and then there was the birth, the irruption into the world, history began. We plunged into time to look for the origin, to deepen the story, to understand.
