Alex Albrecht ( @melquiadesmusic ) is a local Naarm/ Melbourne based DJ/producer & label boss, running the charming, ethereal local imprint Analogue Attic ( @analogueattic ) alongside @sean_labrooy, which showcases the gentle side of music down under. 

Between running his label, dj'ing, and solo releases under "Alex Albrecht presents Melquiades", Alex is also known for his productions alongside his co-label head, Sean La Brooy, under Albrecht La'brooy ( @albrecht-labrooy ). The musical duo have an impressive slew of releases which combine elements of electronic and classical/ jazz influenced music, with a beautiful result. The two have also run various events in Melbourne across the last decade. 

Alex showcases his solo project in his mix here, with a bunch of his own productions embedding the mix.

"The concept for this mix was to recreate the types of sets that I've been playing recently in small intimate nightclubs from 5am onwards. The types of places where the only purpose is to get your head down and dance. It's kind of tripped out, deep and skippy. I feel as a DJ I have many avenues I go down but this is undoubtedly my absolute favourite flavour to play.

Our goal with Body Movements is that it is representative of the full – as much as possible – spectrum of the queer community within clubbing culture. We have a broad and diverse music policy and represent a wide range of sexual identities, cultures and ethnicities." - @saoirsemusic

ISAbella has always had a passion for music, not just as a DJ, but also as a co-founder of the LGBTQ+ party, platform, and collective MARICAS. 

It didn't take long for the scene to take notice of her fresh and energetic sound. Right around the end of 2018, we started to hear about ISAbella. She played at our ADE event in collaboration with HÖR at Radion, where this mix was live recorded.

'El Commodino' is a new section of my monthly show where I'll be inviting artists to play sounds they don't get the to showcase on the regular. That could be tracks on the fringes of their rekordbox, music they listen to privately, tunes that mean something to them, or just an hour of ambient music, or even death metal, or all of the above. Literally whatever feels close to their heart in time of recording. 

El Commodino's first guest is Azemad, the Berlin-based Egyptian producer behind my favorite EP of 2022 'Afriki' (released on Awkwardly Social).  For the hour, Azemad blends vintage and contemporary experimental sounds, featuring a selection of influential tracks dating back to the mid-1970s. The compilation showcases a blend of diverse analog sounds and intricate rhythmic patterns.

The 3rd session of El Commodino is by A7ba-L-Jelly, a cornerstone of the Cairo underground, one of my personal favorite DJs, and the force behind Jelly Zone– the party that emphasizes the more unconventional and experimental sides of dance music. For this session however, A7ba-L-Jelly took the prompt to heart and is gifting us a collection of early 2000s mainstream rock tunes, no hidden gems, just things she used to listen to during those years.

A main staple of Tokyo’s club scene, @Mars89 is a master of tension building and a prolific producer known for his dystopic sounds and relentless drums. In the 4th session of El Commodino, Mars89 goes full freeform, stirring away from what he usually plays on the dance floor to providing a glimpse of what actively informs and inspires his productions. During the hour he’ll weave through industrial, jazz, musique concrete, drum and bass and many others sounds and textures that he envisions while making music. Planet Euphorique is the name of @d-tiffany’s label, but also a perfect summation of her sound: musically she reworks rave, euphoria, trance, electro, breakbeat and techno into all out emotional onslaughts that get hands in the air and chests swelling with joy. The Canadian - who also runs the xpq? label - has always got things done on her own terms, from running parties in her own house in Vancouver to making dance music with the gear she had previously used as part of a band via setting up her own women-focused Intersessions DJ school.

This week she treats us to an extra special two hour selection that will take you to the heart of a rave in your front room. It’s a mix that bristles with life, from dusty and teary-eyed breakbeats that are shrouded in nostalgia to more clipped and kicking techno. The mixing is tight and urgent and after initially serving up plenty of lush moments of melody and IDM introspection, it grows all the more direct and unhinged later on.
