POSSESSION PODCAST #172 - ELISE MASSONI

After 5 years in the Shanghai local scene where she was involved as a dj and live performer, Elise Massoni moved to Berlin to focus entirely on her music production. She rapidly got noticed for her subtle blend of broken rhythms and delicate electro which landed her a first EP on Man Band records having her material remixed by Forest Drive West on 2 occasions. Being one of those wide-ranging selectors unafraid of drastic bpm and genre shifts, masterfully oscillating between fast techno, IDM, acid, and a smattering of ghetto and electro, Elise marked some notable appearances in some of Europe's most renowned clubs & festivals such as Kaiku (Helsinki), Rex Club (Paris), Dimensions and Flow festival. Finally relocating to Paris, Elise started her monthly residency on Rinse France and continues to push her sound forward.

People of Eternity is a music compilation curated by Gavilán Rayna Russom and Sanna Almajedi which will be out on all platforms on April 10. It is the first volume of #BDS Mixtape–a series of music compilations initiated by Adalah-NY that features musicians who support the Palestinian call for the cultural boycott of Israel.

On Palestinian producer Dakn's (@dakn-1)track, there are sonic references to realities of life under siege and occupation – the regular intervals of shudders of gunfire punctuating the music, along with the rumbling of embattled voices shouting.

People of Eternity is dedicated to the late musician jaimie branch who was a supporter of the Palestinian cause and is featured on this album together with Jason Nazary with their duo Anteloper. Kaye Cain-Nielsen, the editor-in-chief of e-flux journal wrote the liner notes and Selwa Abd (aka Bergsonist) designed the artwork. The album circulates around the concept of radicality: a radical sound meets a radical cause.

For our 60th release, we are very excited to present ‘Ison’, a new album by ABADIR.

Growing up in Heliopolis, Cairo, I used to visit different churches with my parents for Sunday mass and on Christian holidays. Fascinated with the choir and chants by various sects, I absorbed all these different sounds into one hybrid memory, which was the main inspiration for ‘Ison’. Using segments and field recordings from Coptic, Syriac, Maronite, Greek Orthodox and Catholic choirs, I present my own vision of what can be described as fresh hymns, fictional chants, or parts of a contemporary Sunday mass.

This is not representational. This is not a cultural relic for the exoticizing gaze. This is purely personal; a fictional sound rooted in the present.

While ‘Ison’ is clearly different from my last album, ‘Mutate’, it follows the same approach of revisiting cultural surroundings for potential mutation. If Mutate’s clubby vibe was made “to make the floor burn”, Ison is intended to cure last night’s hangover.

Hello tout le monde! Vous écoutez Arabstract Digging, l‘émission dédiée aux musiques et culture du Mashriq au Maghreb.
Pour cet épisode j'ai voulu rendre Hommage à la musique Égyptienne à travers des extrait des musiques de film des parodies musicales d'époque et bien entendus des classiques intemporelles.
J’ai vraiment pris plaisir à réaliser cette sélection car elle m’ a rappelé beaucoup de moment de mon enfance quand je regardais la télé ou des VHS durant mes vacances au maroc dans les années 90, et c’est sans plus attendre que je vais vous partager cette sélection. Bonne écoute !
