Since the mid 90’s, Vincent Koreman a.k.a. Drvg Cvltvre has been working on his own blend of dystopian acid, no wave and experimental house. Respected in the international underground for his groundbreaking work in experimental techno and electro as RA-X in the 90′s on labels like Bunker and KK Records, Koreman comes from a DIY punk background, opting for hard work and political stance rather than hollow pose and insta likes.

Drvg Cvltvre’s music takes the speed down a notch to emphasis on the heaviness of sound and using the space left between the pounding kicks to build melancholic melodies that seem to grow out of thin air. A blend of dark techno and deep house with lots of experiment, influenced in equal parts by Suicide, Sun Ra and Terrence Dixon.

His discography is a staggering collection of releases on labels like Warp, Permanent Vacation, Viewlexx, Pinkman, Omnidisc, the legendary Nervous Records and his own imprint New York Haunted, that has been gaining momentum as a bastion of cool, experimental house & techno in an increasingly stale and bland music scene. Drvg Cvltvre is a sought after live act and dj that has been playing everywhere from Shanghai to New York and from Sydney to Helsinki, leaving crowds in awe of his hardware live sets and stellar dj selections. 

Drvg Cvltvre’s tracks are staples in several well known Djs sets. His cuts get played by Nina Kraviz, Speedy J, I-F, John Talabot, DJ Stingray, Juan Atkins, Jackmaster, Marcel Dettmann, Helena Hauff and many others. He’s been featured and interviewed by DJMag, Mixmag, Resident Advisor and The Wire.

Which artists has influenced you the most?

- Sun Ra, a mystic jazz musician from the US that also started his own label. Suicide, 2 man punk with synths group from NYC and Omar S and Terrence Dixon, two very distinct producers with their own sound and bringing the black roots of techno back to the current sound. Besides those I listen to a ton of metal and punk and also some dub.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- There's a new album coming up on March 1 on Diffuse Reality, it is called UNREALITY and has 10 new tracks, plus there is a new 12" coming on Shipwrec with 4 electro tracks. Also a new album on Logic Of The Signifier, called The Mind Is A Portal which contains a track I made together with Dutch artist Sigrid Calon, originally for TUSK Festival. 

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- Right now I think our own label New York Haunted is totally on point with the new releases. There's so much good stuff coming I can hardly believe it. Besides that I'm currently listening to a lot of Lloyd Cole & The Commotions and some new death metal, Vacuous, Cerebral Rot and Worm.

What inspires you now to create music?

- There is no inspiration, it is a necessity for me to be mentally healthy. I NEED to create music because I will become depressed if I can't make music for longer than 1 week. I have a young kid so I don't have that much time besides my job, so every spare minute I'm not spending at my job or with my wife & kid, I'm using it to make music.

What set-up do you use when creating music? 

- Depends on how much time I have. Sometimes I'll just record some parts on my phone or on the Ipad, or record layers on desktop tools like Forrester or Drone. If I have slightly more time I go up to the attic where my setup is and record hardware to the computer or sometimes just start with something I've recorded in the past week and build on it in Cubase.

Seli is a DJ/Producer born in Guadalajara and now based in Mexico City. About 2 years ago she started making her own tracks, and then got into mixing. The genres she focuses on are Techno, Electro, Breakbeats, and sometimes Minimal. She is very passionate about dark and elegant sounds, which would make you go very deep into new feelings but at the same time give you a little hope. The point of music is to feel it all, and some difficult and unknown impressions and emotions are very interesting to her. When mixing, she looks for new and sophisticated sounds, the ones that directly reflect an artist’s original expression (therefore a new feeling for everybody), and when producing, her objective is to do the same.

Sonification resonance

Exhausted Modern is a project established by Czech musician Ladislav Zensor whose approach to sound creates metaphorical expression of fatigue which comes from living in a world where technology takes over. In his compositions accent is put on analogue sound with a slightly raw character. The percussive passages are interluded with melodic elements which altogether create very atypical, personal and often dystopic sound. Work of Exhausted Modern is regularly released on well-established labels as Brokntoys, Veyl or Rotterdam Electronix. He also releases his music thru label Endless Illusion which he co-founded together with Raphael Kosmos back in 2011. Together they as well create series of mixes for radio stations including Integalactic.FM. He always tries to bring unconventional glimpse into electronic music combining old forgotten tapes with the current avant-garde sound.

A recording above was done by Exhausted Modern at a Lithuanian festival - Supynes Playground 2019 - where he was invited by curators of that stage, online media platform Calypso Magazine. Accompanied by another artist, responsible for the live visual projections - Mgla2080, from Polish electro-industrial crew SYNTETYK, Exhausted Modern’s live set was taken to a new intense and unique sonic experience that audience could live through.
