EU foreign ministers have agreed to a new mission to enforce an arms embargo in Libya following repeated violations of last month's ceasefire.

Ministers met in Brussels in Monday to discuss the conflict in Tripoli. It comes after UN deputy special envoy to Libya Stephanie Williams, described the current arms embargo in place as a "joke", calling on those who breach it to be held to account.

The European Union was split over whether to revive a maritime surveillance mission in the Mediterranean to ensure the UN arms embargo is respected, out of fears that it could create a "pull effect" for migrants hoping to cross into Europe.

Despite the EU naval mission, experts like Mitchell Belfer, head of the European Gulf Information Centre in Rome, are sceptical that it will ensure a lasting ceasefire.

He spoke to RFI's Christina Okello.

EU gives green light for Libya naval mission as ceasefire hangs in balance

The killing of journalists at Charlie Hebdo five years ago prompted TV producer Laurent Richard to continue the work of assassinated reporters.

He set up the NGO Forbidden Stories, an international consortium of journalists determined to keep the stories of their colleagues alive.

In their new documentary Green Blood, Richard and his partners expose the global pattern of harassment and intimidation facing journalists who try and report on environment issues.

Richard was in our studios this week and sat down to talk with RFI's Christina Okello.

Environment journalists at risk, new documentary shows

Uganda became the first African country last week to deploy a nationwide digital registry to improve transparency of its land sector.
The system, operating in some 22 districts, is aimed at reducing fraud and the time it takes to carry out transactions.
Fake land titles are one of the many tricks conmen use to dupe potential buyers.
That could soon change, says Christophe Dekeyne, CEO of French company IGN FI behind the digitisation process. He spoke to RFI's Christina Okello.

Critics have hit out at a decision by Uganda's parliament to award MPs 10 billion Ugandan shillings (2.4 million euros) to help them manage the coronavirus pandemic. They say the money was deducted from the health ministry's Covid-19 budget and should be given back.
Speaking to RFI's Christina Okello, opposition lawmaker Jonathan Odur accuses the government of using the coronavirus emergency response as an excuse to "defraud the nation."

Chroniques confinées - podcast "Dans la peau" de Frédérique Lebel, par Maëlane

Three women, who were arrested on suspicion of belonging to Boko Haram, went on retrial in Cameroon Friday on charges of espionage. 

The case dates back to 2014 when the women: Marie Dawandala, Damaris Doukouya and Martha Weteya, all aged 17 at the time, fled the Nigerian islamist group.

Instead of finding safety at home, they were arrested by Cameroonian authorities.

For Marie-Lina Samuel, Africa Project Coordinator with the organisation ECPM (Together Against the Death Penalty), the women found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Samuel spoke to RFI's Christina Okello.
