Summary: After the recent death of his friend, Hayden, Sam turns to a playlist for insight on anything that could have led to his best friend's ultimate demise. 

The book provided a song for each chapter, this is a partial compilation of those songs. (Each song is part of a playlist given to Sam after his friend's recent death.)
1. This is one of the favorite songs (by Radiohead)of Hayden, the protagonist's (Sam) best friend. 
2. (This is a cover) After attending the funeral of his recently deceased friend, Sam decides on the song that he would have likely would've wanted to be delivered at his service. 
3. A remix that was part of the Donnie Darko soundtrack, it also marks the start of an arising friendship between Sam and an aquatint of Hayden. 
4. The eerie mood of the song plays well into the similar feeling of the chapter. 
5. (Technically 6 on the playlist) The Ramones become a topic of conversation in the slowly recovering household of Sam's family. It could be a way to discuss seemingly light-hearted topics to mask any profound ideas and feelings. 
7. The song expands the reader's knowledge on the cause behind the death of Hayden.  Without giving away any spoilers, all I can say is that it's one of the more significant songs on this playlist. 
11. As the book nears its end, things resolve in an "as-good-as-it-can-get-when-your-best-friend-is-dead-and-you're-a-sad-lonely-human." I think the tempo works well to explain that. 
10. In conclusion, things still suck even over time. Despite overcoming frustrating moments of pure confusion and hate, not much is gonna fix the loss of your best friend. It's hard to have a fairytale ending when you can't even hope for one.
