Jo Johnson has been releasing music and organising events since the early 90s. She is a regular performer at Freerotation festival in the UK, and organises electronic music events with Bleep43 in London. Her debut solo album, Weaving, was released on Further Records in 2014 and has been described as a modern classic.  Her latest solo release, The Wave Ahead, came out earlier this year on Brooklyn-based label, Mysteries of the Deep. Jo also collaborates with pianist and composer, Hilary Robinson, and they have a live album, Session One, on 9128.live (a sub-label of A Strangely Isolated Place).

“It's been a pleasure to spend time listening to someone else’s music rather than my own! I've been writing and playing out much more this year, which has been amazing, but it's not left as much time for listening, so it's been refreshing and inspiring to delve into some of the great music that's been coming out recently. "This mix was recorded live at the last Living Room event a few weeks ago in June. We hosted the first NUG show and also the lovely project called Tutti by Heather Mease and Grace Holleran. It was a pretty random track selection of some of my most played tunes and I decided to do a lot of looping, fx and tempo changes to make it really drony and drowsy. Honestly most of these songs came out unrecognizable. I was trying to cool off the place while the audience was still arriving to the venue from an intense heatwave outside."

WAVES FROM Usof

Glyn Maier is a sound artist and field recordist living in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. Non-city outdoor spaces are essential to Maier’s practice. With a formal education in physics and
music composition, Maier’s preoccupations with natural objects, landscapes, and their social histories guide his recordings, which are then integrated into electronic works utilizing organic rhythms and complex timbres. Maier’s abstract synthesis work is deeply informed by sound design, but his larger focus is on the agency of both machine and environment. Another facet of Maier’s sonic practice is enmossed, the label he founded in 2017. Dedicated to contemporary sound, all profits are donated to positive causes of the artist’s choice, and materials for the tapes and records are hand-constructed out of recycled materials. Its catalogue is distributed internationally by shops such as Boomkat (UK), Rope Editions (Korea), and Tobira Records (Japan).

About the mix
The backbone of the mix is a segment of a longer vinyl DJ set I recorded utilizing a +/- 50% pitch range between two turntables recorded live on Halloween 2022. With an aim towards stretching sounds and favoring extended blends of tracks, the crossroads of fall and winter/past and future were melded into one, on a night deemed especially conducive to the intertwining of material and spirit.

That recording has found a new life through a dialogue with doris dana. In addition to editing the mix to fit the time-constraints of a radio program, dana also added live improvisations, dialogue snippets, and a few additional tracks.  dana has elevated this mix into a perennial listen, seasons stacked in superposition. The wheel is always turning, but this mix may place us at its hub for a moment.
