After studying music production in Manchester and audio engineering in Berlin, he began to play worldwide in cities like London, Istanbul, Manchester, and Berlin. He is now based in Tulum, playing for the best venues. His musical selections range from downtempo, disco, funk, jazz, disco, house. You can find him hosting his monthly show on Radio Alhara, based in Palestine.

A short while ago, @freedomofgroovement sat down for conversation with Vish and Mazen from @dardisku. The aim was to understand the musical roots of this duo experiencing a meteoric rise. The result? A decade, continent and genre-spanning playlist: hip hop, bollywood, rock n roll, indie, raï, dubstep and disco. Definitively demonstrating that our influences are always all around us, and when you live the globe-trotting life these two have, there’s no borders on any dancefloor.

Where In The World Is: Dar Disku w/ Freedom of Groovement

Based in Stockholm since the late 1990s, British-born Mark Seven began his obsession with the dance at now vaunted London parties such as Delirium, to a soundtrack of Soul, Funk, and Hip Hop. As Acid House took root in the capital Mark became a regular at the similarly hallowed Future and Shoom and started organizing his own events. His passion for discovery led him to journey to the U.S. and Europe to source vinyl, and has resulted in his own on-line store, JusWax. In Stockholm Mark set up the Black Lodge all-nighters, mix-tapes from which helped to alert the outside world to his knowledge and ability. 

Mark is probably one of the best selectors around and is making a journey over here next month (details of that here: http://on.fb.me/1dwxT5v). 

With that in min we thought it was high time we asked him to formulate a mix for the R$N series.

Antonio Lubrano, a seasoned radio sound engineer who embarked on his musical journey at the young age of 15 and became a resident DJ at prominent city clubs by the age of 18, has consistently harbored a passion for diverse non-commercial music. His DJ sets reflect a deliberate effort to introduce lesser-known sounds, injecting an element of unpredictability. Renowned as a "vinyl enthusiast" within the industry, Antonio has, in recent years, delved into the world of collecting rare records, sourcing gems from the Italian and European underground scenes spanning the 70s, 80s, and even the 90s—acquiring them through both online platforms and eclectic flea markets.

In 2022 Antonio, alongside collaborator Daniele Giustra, proudly co-founded "Disco Tic." This innovative project showcases the art of back-to-back performances exclusively on vinyl, with a focus on 45s featuring the distinctive Italo-disco sound. The duo has given life to a vibrant SoundCloud channel under the same name, featuring meticulously curated mixtapes crafted by DJs and selectors from across the globe. This platform serves as a testament to their commitment to promoting and preserving the rich legacy of underground music.

For their first episode, they spoke to Ethiopian band Admas, whose 1984 LP "Sons of Ethiopia" was recorded in Washington DC and recently reissued in New York's @frederiksbergrecords. Their influences are as diverse as the album itself, but mainly rooted in the jazz of Grover Washington, Weather Report and Azymuth, plus a surprising shoutout to country legends Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton. Where In the World aims to give a voice to artists from all over the globe to share their musical roots. The next installment comes from @gabrielbadwan based in Curitiba, Brazil. Though eccentric to the musical centers of São Paulo and Rio, Curitiba of late boasts a small but vibrant scene. As the head of @hmtwtrilhasonora there, Gabriel is in the envious position to dig for Brazilian gems at local second hand shops or ‘sebos’. The show is focused on some of these finds, jazz and boom-bap street soul from the 80s onwards. The way Gabriel put these tracks together loosely tells the story of his country, and what makes Brazil so special to him, despite all the darkness there at the moment. At a time when words can sometimes fail you, Gabriel lets the music do the talking.

Where In the World's global journey through artists' musical roots continues with DJ and producer Moving Still (@movingstill). As a producer his dancefloor rocking hits have circled around the world in the hands of your favorite DJs, and include releases on Nail Shop Records, Orange Tree Edits, Dar Disku Records and most recently Jive Hive. Though he's best known for his danceable edits of forgotten Arabic hits dug out from dusty cassettes, Moving Still's influences extend beyond the Gulf and include 90s dance, his own start as a hip hop DJ and the ambient music of Aphex Twin. As a DJ, he's a resident on Dublin Digital Radio where he and his guests showcase (in his own words) 'ouddy bangers' and on Palestine's Radio Al Hara where he takes a more relaxed approach. In this show, Moving Still takes us through his early days DJing hip hop and opening for MF DOOM, how sampling Arabic sounds helped him affirm his own cultural identity and how ambient music helped him complete his PhD in immunology. The tracklist for this episode is all Killer no Filler, and includes a couple exclusive as yet unreleased tracks from Moving Still, one which is out on Jive Hive next month and one ambient track that will probably never see a full release.
