Joshua Calleja is a 26-year-old DJ and producer whose sound revolves around Hypnotic, Raw, and Atmospheric Techno. He began DJing back in 2012, and about a year later, he started producing his own music. Since then, it has been a long journey of growth, experimentation, and the ongoing pursuit of refining his unique sound.

Joshua first fell in love with electronic music through trance, with artists such as Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, and Tiësto shaping his early musical passion. His main inspiration for diving into techno came from Richie Hawtin, whose minimal yet powerful and forward-thinking approach completely changed the way Joshua viewed electronic music.

He believes that the most essential skills for any DJ include track selection, crowd reading, and technical mixing ability. Beyond that, he emphasises the importance of passion, patience, and authenticity, staying true to one’s sound while continuously evolving as an artist.

Constantly exploring new releases and following labels that align with his sound, Joshua dedicates time to discovering fresh talent on platforms like Bandcamp, Beatport, and SoundCloud. He also makes it a point to attend local events, drawing inspiration from the diverse sounds and energy of the Maltese underground scene.

Over the years, Joshua has developed deep respect for the local scene, which has seen remarkable growth and creativity. He admires artists such as OBLX, iNK, Gordon Flash, Muski, Acidulant, Sound Synthesis, Georg, Kyle Cortis, Echofaze, Human Safari, and Yazmin, among many others, who continue to push boundaries and bring their unique energy to Malta’s electronic landscape.

For Joshua, the most rewarding part of being a DJ is the connection with the crowd. That shared moment when everyone becomes completely immersed in the music, when people lose themselves in the atmosphere he creates, is something truly special. It’s that energy and connection that continue to inspire and motivate him every time he performs.
