Martin Vice & Michael Banel are two names who certainly need no formal introduction, as both their solo projects VICE & BEHIND BLUE EYES has respectively gained the deserved popularity, seeing them both travel and perform at countless festivals around the globe.
Both Martin & Michael decided on fusing their creative minds to form an exciting, yet powerful new duo. The self-titled collaboration is aimed at delivering a very slick and intelligent new sound within their respective genre.

The project effortlessly explores the boundaries between techno and progressive psy-trance, best described as deep driving and hypnotic soundscapes. Music intently crafted to take their listeners on a mystical journey of interstellar travel that will reconnect you to that true trance dance sensation that can only be experienced, on an outdoor trance festival.

A debut album is already in the pipeline, with the first singles expected towards late 2014 on Iboga Records, adding to the labels very impressive stable of artists and quality releases.

IbogaTech Series continues with Ben Coda from Nanoplex and a little philosophizing about the duo’s latest release, Broken Britain.

For nearly a decade Ben Coda has been crafting his progressive techno sound.
Ben’s tight, energetic live shows and DJ sets have rocked crowds worldwide. With one foot in clubland and another in the international festival circuit, he is as at home laying down beats in a Berlin basement as he is taking people on a ride on a dusty dancefloor. Ben’s music cuts through genres, never following a trend, and this is reflected in the diverse set of DJs from across the dance music spectrum that play his tracks. He has released music on some of the most influential underground labels around, including Iboga Records, Tribal Vision, Lot49, Echoes, Flow and many more.

A core member of the Lowering the Tone crew with Meat Katie, Ben hosts regular podcasts with key music industry players. He has a monthly show on Proton Radio, one of the leading online dance music stations, called Connected, and is also one half of psychedelic techno act Nanoplex, part of the Iboga Records family, whose last album ‘Digitechture’ hit the top 5 on Beatport.

My talk will illuminate a neglected moment in psychedelic history: the legacy of Laura Huxley, a woman of wisdom, will and warmth in a world of male intellectuals. Laura’s 1962 self-help debut, You Are Not the Target, was a mainstream success. Best described as a gentle manual for integrating altered states into daily living, Laura sketches 30 easy ‘recipes’ for shifting our perceptions and improving our interactions.
Language profoundly influences our perceptions, and Laura highlights many of the Western linguistic habits that don’t serve our hopes of ‘integration’, or learning to live and love to our full capacities. If our worlds are constructed and maintained by the language that we use, then semantic shifts can dislodge our myopic cultural paradigms. Are there new metaphors and grammatical models that could enrich our topography of mind, body, self, feeling, altered states and all that precedes and follows?
As we continue to struggle with the supposed “ineffability” of altered states and strain to defuse over half a century of psychedelic stigma, Laura’s work warrants renewed celebration.
Reanne Crane is a PhD candidate and Assistant Lecturer at the University of Kent. Her research focusses on altered states of consciousness, metaphor, linguistics and perception. She has a background in teaching and translation, with an M.A. in Contemporary Literature, and a B.A. in Mandarin Chinese and English.
