Mind Expanders (preview set 12-13 July)

First track from an upcoming album inspired by Shpongle's take on a chilled and down tempo approach to Psytrance with multi-continental influences.

The edited version which puts it under the 10 minute threshold needed for SoundCloud Artist Pro tracks

production notes:
This started out with a narrative I wrote for the track about a lone figure that awoke without memory in a cave that appeared to be sentient, and inhabited ravers entranced by strange relics. The usual psychedelic trope stuff. I recorded the vocals myself, and used them to inform the initial arrangement of the track. It became evident that the story would result in a evolving and winding musical expedition. However, my voice really didn't suit it. So I used elevenlabs to generate a new AI version of the vocals - that are used here. Later I stripped most of the vocals out, however the story they informed is now the song.

Each track I make offers new challenges.. here I really wanted to shift genres and sounds a lot. It sounds quite basic, but there's a lot going on here from a bassline that absolutely isn't traditional psytrance (although the base pattern is inspired by "Robotoised" by Quirk), to shifting from saw bass, to square wave, to switching the whole thing up in to a Brazil-inspired shponglised breakdown - considering I had no knowledge of this musical style, let alone how to produce it. However the real challenge was finishing this track. The arrangement has been 'complete' for months now with me tweaking and trying to polish it up enough to release it. 

I also decided to make this a multi-part song. Again, inspired by Shpongle albums where tracks eb and flow between each other. Part 2 of this isn't included here, but I hope I can make it become a full mixed album. Something for later.

Nikita Tselovalnikov, the Russian-born psytrance producer behind Penta, has been making music for twenty years. Having played as a trance producer in more than thirty countries around the world, appearing repeatedly in every major festival such as Boom, Voov, Universo Paralello, Full Moon and Burning Man, Nikita has gained reputation as one of the pioneers and innovators in the psytrance world. Being identified with darkpsy, full-on and progressive genres at the same time, Penta’s unique futuristic sound has brought together people of different scenes into one swirling psychedelic dance. You will find Penta’s tracks on dozens of compilations as well as four albums – “Pentafiles”, “Funraiser”, “Horn Please” and "Portuguese abduction", all available as either CDs or digital downloads in on-line stores such as Beatport and iTunes. His fifth album “Give Me Five” was released in April of 2009. Sixth album "All Shots Double" is coming on July 15th, 2011. Apart from being a producer, Nikita is the designer, webmaster and the owner of AuraQuake record label, as well as the creator of AuraQuake t-shirt line. He is also the man behind spontaneous projects, such as Boom Radio and Universo Paralello YouTube broadcasts.

Since 2008, Nikita is performing his own electro house music under the name Azorsky.

On this 16th radio show of Japanese leading psytrance label Grasshopper Records will be presented by Freddy ‘Algorika’ also known from ‘Land Switcher’.

Some of you may already know Freddy ‘Algorika’, as half of French duo ‘Land Switcher’; where he has already seen success, touring and releasing music all over the world. But he is no newcomer to producing trance music, with over 10 years experience to build on, he has been captivated since his introduction by his brother. Freddy’s sound has since grown from its morning full on roots to a deeper, darker and overall more technical middle groove style.
With many psychedelic experiences behind him and through investment in his other project, he has seen a great period of evolution and refined his own take on the music which first inspired him.
After the success of his debut collaboration with James West, featured on Hatta’s ’Round of Night’ series, Freddy now joins the Grasshopper records crew, to showcase his music to a global audience.
