Sunday Sessions: Explorations

This Free Harbour show features the EZMBA ExamFest. Faculty of Electronic Music and Media Arts in University of Pécs, Hungary (EZMBA) is a special melting pot of minds who are interested in sound, noise, silence and their electronic / digitals forms; who doesn't accept the media of sound and vision in the closed box, rather open it for experimenting, improvising. This one-hour live mix (edited by lecturer and organizer Gabor Borosi) is a small snippet from the event called Exam Festival, which was held in Free Harbour Cultural Center in Pécs. Exam Festival is a semester-closing exam for first grade students, who have to perform their work during the evening (while they have fun with the lecturers).

With some delay due to brown and green excuses, we are kicking off 2023 with another very interesting DJ to host a great episode of the 420μHz podcast!

Mr. Clifford a.k.a Kliff Persson https://soundcloud.com/kliff-persson, delivers a 2-hour high quality techno story, Taking us between the melodic, proggy and some of the murky waters of psychedelia. The 420µHz Bardo #15 of our podcast is called End The Beginning, and is our “finally back on track” episode to start this year.

This cool dude, originally from Trelleborg, got a trance record back in 1996rom a friend, after moving to Malmö.That’s how he got hooked on that rhythmical, bass-driven sound that attracted another kind of people. A sound away from apparent commercialism and superficial musical interactions, towards a crowd who mindfully chose their venues and DJs, where curated music was the gravitating center.

This advance in Mr. Clifford’s evolution, made him take his first leap into playing as a DJ in 1998. A step he also credits to all the producers who made his craft possible back then and continue to do so today.

Interestingly enough, this journey did not start in the 6 month long dark cloudy season of Scandinavia but in sun-drenched Goa India. Back then under the so locally suitable artist moniker “The Spliff”.

Ever since he has been playing everything from prog, tech house, techno and minimal in Thailand, Germany, India, Sweden and Denmark. Teaming up on occasion with his buddy DJ SaTaYa a.k.a Peter Lindgren https://soundcloud.com/djsataya. Eventually, landing a gig together in 2006,  at the legendary Fusion Festival near Lärz Germany.

And as for the set, we’ll take it from the man himself:

“This set started out as I just wanted to show my type of favourite tunes, with some slow crawling tunes to get u interested. And as I self got warmed up and started to visualise myself on the dance floor beside the crowd and started to feel how I would like the night to unfold, I could feel the high energy with a smile and warmness in my chest - and then I knew that was the way to go.

I was going for tunes with playful melodies, attitude and some hard drive, but still in harmony and I feel quite pleased with the result. 
 
And I just hope you will feel happiness and strength when my story carries you away through the night. I want to play music that keeps you on your feet, always with drive and melodies, it doesn't have to be high bpm for making people move.”

So here we are after an 8 month absence, due to moves, re-organization and split focus. We find ourselves at last here at the emergence of Bardo #15 of our 420µHz podcast - End The Beginning

Spurred into being by Birmingham's veritable SpaceHopper night, Paul Baguley and Sonya Bailey have been producing electronic music as ManMadeMan since 1994, dropping tracks on prominent labels such as Nano, TIP and Flying Rhino. Aiming to be positive, funky, psychedelic and musical all at the same time, they’ve had support from Pete Tong, Sasha and Digweed along the way, plus played countless live shows around the world.

Cosmicleaf presents SHIVANAM with a studio mix showcasing their music catalog. With their fourth album that was released at Cosmicleaf Records they are entering a completely new musical dimension. They leaned even more into the electronic scene with dense bass lines and rich rhythms, traditionally connected by many sound frequencies up to hypnotic trance. They are also preparing a new concert line - when the situation allows it. The music group Shivanam is a multi-genre band which draws inspiration from world and ethno music and combines it with modern styles like chill-out, ambient, electronic music, dub, downtempo and trance. The Shivanam was founded in 1998 and has cooperated with many musicians and bands. Although some of the abovementioned now run their own projects, they still perform with the Shivanam as special guests. Currently the group has three members. During performances you can hear a variety of music instruments. The music itself is a fusion of classical and traditional instruments (acoustic guitar, pipes, percussion, drums, shaman drums, Tibetan bowls, shenai, voices) as well as modern ones (electric guitar, keyboards, samplers, sound effects).
