Among many crazy and funny things I said (and did) this summer, one sentence glued to my mind: 

LIFE IS A WONDERFUL THING TO WASTE! 

I meant this in a sense of "how much of ourselves are we willingly suffocating to maintain the image THEY have imposed on us so that we can develop, progress and move freely?" Life's too short to maintain that image. Live your life the way you want. Your life is only yours, and if it makes you happy to "waste it", well it's yours to waste!

After five or six years I played (almost only) a deep techno set at The Swamp, Mo:Dem Festival. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

In my process of overthinking I labeled my style of (writing and) DJ-ing as BRICOLAGE /ˌbrɪkəˈlɑːʒ/. In the arts, bricolage (French for DIY or do-it-yourself) is "the construction or creation of a work from a diverse range of things that happen to be available, or a work constructed using mixed media." This definition fully and realistically corresponds to what I'm creating, whether it is a text or a DJ set. This definition also fits my punk philosophy and aesthetics.

This Atmospherica Exotica episode presents Dávid Szabó a.k.a. FENZ. The name has stuck with him since 5th grade elementary school, which he came up with during his big graffiti mania. He grew up in the Hip-Hop culture, but also started listening to electronic music thanks to his brother. In 2010 he caught the Berlin Calling fever, and he wanted to make music too. Years later, in 2019, he bought his first 2 controllers, and has been making music for almost 4 years. During these last almost 4 years, he played music in Supersonic, Dark Lab, Budapest. And at home: in Beton and Rómerház and Lima in Győr. In Beton, he organized 3 parties with my friends, the event was called FullPressure. They saw Roland Handrick, Tolnai, Kinga from Synaps and Oxcart as guests. In terms of style, the range between 125-140bpm is closest to him. He likes hypnotic, atmospheric, scratchy, sharp, analog/modular soundscapes, but he's quite eclectic, open-minded. This mix was recorded in Fenz's home studio, starting at 123 and going to 127 bmp. Hypnotic to massive techno and little broken beats at the end.

DJ Basilisk returns to the ecstatic idealism of the early 1990s on TRANSMISSIONS FROM LYONESSE, the latest in an ongoing series of concept mixes documenting electronic music subcultures of the past. This time around the journey leads from scintillating ambient techno arpeggios and idyllic IDM to the raging heights of full-on Goa trance (and back again). Ultimately the aim is to capture some of the magic of the outdoor festival experience circa 1996, particularly in the UK and continental Europe. Many of these tracks are rough around the edges, and several have been lightly edited and remastered exclusively for this mix.

Lazy Calm Raga's mix is a great essence of what the duo enjoys both in genres and moods, starting out with bright ambient sounds, then becoming murky & bass-heavy, and after the first half they explore what they like to do on the dancefloor. Stuff that is very entertaining for both the legs and the brain:) Then in the second part of the show, the Pizza Amore guys lead a journey into the Dragon's Lair: hypnotic, tribal formulas, theorems of midtempo, the sleeper has awakened from her deep dream, grumpy dubs, there is no need to hurry!

This Lost Minute features NAGA. Naga started out DJing in '94 as the first delicate waves of Budapest based rave culture became surfable. In his long decades in electronics he also contributed to Tilos Radio and Chi-recordings, but his collaborations with DJ friends had the most remarkable effect on the local music scene. With Beta he co-founded Hairy Records, and their House2house has been a regular night since then. With Peter Bernath they formed a gig series called 'Lost Minute' presenting innumerable guests from the worldwide house-under scene like Ada Kaleh, Anton Kubikov, Christopher Ledger, Delano Smith, John Dimas, Vid, among others. Their yearly b2b sets at Ozora has always been a slow mounting to inner highs - presented with much care and concentration -, and also a nice occasion for a hypnotic gathering.

SWITCH NOLLIE is also On the Way to Kolorádó Festival and in this mood-making episode you can hear a live recording from his set at last year's Kolorádó, about which he says. "After a cancellation, I had the chance to play at my favourite stage of the festival called Csűr. It was a challange to perform on the closing night after working endlessly at the site the previous days, especially between Loraine James and D. Tiffany. The set was actually a bit longer but you can listen back to the first 2 hours with all it's imperfection. Expect some broken beats, uplifting house and a bit of hypnotic elements seasoned with old and new ingredients." Switch Nollie is a Budapest-based DJ, playing a wide range of trippy dance music, who started with mostly house music and later got involved in darker and more experimental sounds. Expect twists around groovy techno, faster house and psychedelic elements. He’s part of mhmm and Torso crews and curates Kolorádó Festival and downtown bar Központ’s electronic programmes.
