The Riddler's hefty, psychedelic progressive techno is unmistakable. Berlin’s genre-blending powerhouse Dina Summer - comprised of Kalipo (also known from electro-punk outfit Frittenbude) and the dark disco duo Local Suicide - unleashed their second full-length album Girls Gang earlier this year via Iptamenos Discos.
Spanning 11 tracks, the record is a bold and versatile exploration of themes like empowerment, outsider identity, impermanence, nostalgia, and human connection. While their debut leaned heavily into club-ready sounds influenced by italo disco and ’90s electro, Girls Gang embraces a broader sonic spectrum, weaving in elements of new wave, post-punk, and synth pop.
Following a string of standout remixes from DJ Hell, Damon Jee, Phunkadelica, and The Populists, the trio returns with another round of reworks by a circle of befriended artists.
Cologne-based musician Etane, known for his unique genre blend and deep involvement in the music community, reinterprets ‘Hypnotized’ by merging 80s Italo disco aesthetics with a driving techno bassline. He pairs a dreamy atmosphere with a luminous sense of motion, guiding listeners toward a glowing horizon. Echoing the song’s core theme, the spell of hypnotization is carried by airy, string-like melodies and a steady, magnetic groove.
