This mix is a work in progress, and represents my practice based research of the "sound of industrial factory workers in Michigan" from 1936-1989. It is not a linear timeline, but uses fragments of collaged oral history recordings, interviews and music as a form of auditory time travel.

A couple of quick comments: This is a cool piece, I really love the raw quality of the intro. The recorded voice is nicely done. Also really appreciated the breadth of material you brought together. The beat was a bit intrusive. Do you think you could weave that in and out a bit more so it doesn´t take attention away from the text, which is really important?

These tracks are created in collaboration with musician Hannes Huefken, and his post production work. To be used for research, scholarship and teaching.

History of sound technology and worker immigration is about the migratory patterns of labour immigration to America, and then to the space of Michigan. It also mimics the development and migration of sound technology, sound effects, art and music genres that crossed and crisscrossed the Atlantic, between Europe and America. 

Myself and others ask the phrase "If you can hear it"through the sound collage...which refers to microphones and recorded sound.ounds from this mix are extracted from samples from radio and newsreels footage, live music recordings, television, and also from visits to the Lautarchiv (Sound archive) of Humboldt University in Berlin. Other sources included oral history interviews from the Labor History Project at the University of Michigan.
