Ep 25 @mdvet4 Peace and Private Defense

Debut EP recorded over one weekend at BOXO Studio, in Hamilton Ontario. Engineered by Gary Greenland, produced by Kevin Barber, Gary Greenland and Raging Chimera.

This is an important "moment in time" EP for the band that unfortunately got a little lost in the flow of life. As we are already working on new material with a fuller sound it is time to release this stripped down intro. This was us after months of rehearsing and woodshedding, kicking open the doors of possibility and saying "We are here!" 

Recorded live off the floor with minimal overdubs: the vocals, a couple extra rhythm guitar tracks and solos, (except Rebel Girl, only vocals were dubbed on that).

I've Lost Myself

A Chimera is a hybrid animal of mystic proportions, a raging one was the perfect name for the pub guitarist/lyricist Christopher Kiely’s Irish dad always dreamed of opening. As dad was also a well-known music writer, the household was rife with the good stuff. As often happens, early and strong influences forge a musical identity, and the likes of Lou Reed and David Bowie made starkly original and metamorphic music that resonated the loudest and the longest.  A chance meeting with bassist Larry Pascal over the purchase of a weird little tube-amp led to the agreement to meet up at a North Hamilton jam space and the two found they had similar tastes and the kind of mutual respect that is required when it’s not your first rodeo. After filtering through a few drummers, the two met the last piece in the puzzle by the name of Charlie Pirrera when the drummer showed up at the jam one night.  Charlie had chops for days, and the tentative query to if he was currently playing with anyone else was met with “just a kid on my street” – they knew they had their man – all to themselves.  2017 was the year of “keep it together” followed by the writing, stage training and discipline of 2018. All the work set a path to BOXO Studio in Hamilton to record their self-titled debut record in the spring of 2019 where engineer Gary Greenland captured the rawness and the polish that combine in the wonderful mashup of what can accurately be described in today’s environment as neo classic truth rock.

While it can be said that youth is wasted on the young, there is something to be said about a trio of crafty gentlemen who play with the passion and conviction of three cons on the lam, tasting freedom as deeply and completely as possible until the end – come hell or high water.
