This short plunderphonic essay was requested some years ago, by the WIRE, a weekly unique and innovative music radio show aired by the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). 

In short, I was kindly granted permission to use essentially sound material from the show, including interviews with artists such as Steve Reich, John Oswald, Dj Shadow and Glenn Gould, on and off air bits and bloopers, and music that was presented throughout the show, in order to make a sound collage which was presented on the show shortly after.

I could not express how excited and grateful I was, being given such a privilege. The piece was cut, assembled and recorded overnight, in order to keep the exercise spontaneous and intuitive. It was humbly done in all respect to the artists and the music I was quoting. You will recognize familiar references such as Pink Floyd, Pat Metheny, Steve Reich and the Beatles. 

No sounds other than the ones featured in The Wire's archives, were used in the making of this piece.

Bournemouth based Abstract Culture continue to add facets to their blooming imprint as it gradually gathers steam behind releases from Zoo Look and Ampers&. With support across these two releases from Maya Jane Coles, Huxley, Eats Everything, Jimpster, Dusky and Detroit Swindle, the next release comes courtesy of Brazil based Sara Garcia a.k.a Whim-ee.

Following up releases on labels such as Night Drive Music, Chilli Mint Music, Nite Grooves and TaoDan Records, Whim-ee carries influences primarily from Chicago and Detroit into her forward-reaching productions that are consistently suffused with a tough and gritty sense of soul.

‘Streets Of Recife’ is a course combination of concrete kicks, husky synths and mangled vocal snippets that are backed up with a remix from the lauded Frenchman - Anaxander.

The title track kicks things off with darting strobes and a swirling synth pattern sat above a rattling underbelly before Anaxander, who follows up releases on Dame-Music, Quintessentials and Local Talk offers up a warming take on the original rich with glowing piano lines and softly saturated bass tones.

‘Sub’ then drives it’s whetted and cold percussion over a softly rotating drone before ‘Before Considering’ rolls out an elephantine groove behind forceful, plodding synths and a thickened kick and clap combo that bring another Abstract Culture coup to a close.

The twelve-track album big bang of determined self-producing Swiss autocrat Kate Wax's dark electronic musical universe was mixed in sensitive harmony with new friend James Holden in his London studio, following which James seized upon the parts stashed on his hard drive to string two of the most club-friendly album cuts out into the dancefloor-optimised vinyl-only hedonistic symphonies you see before you.

It doesn't happen often, but every once in a while one release is all it takes to establish you're dealing with an exceptional talent. Laurence Guy's debut EP on Church was one of those records: Four dusty, moody, intricate basenent workouts that tug on your heartstrings and make you want to crank up the gain at the same time. It found its way into the bag of some of the world's best and became a staple in Move D's sets and instanly made Laurence Guy one of the scene's most promising and exciting new talents.
The savvy folks at Rose Records cottoned on quickly and locked in a pair of tracks by the London-based producer for the latest episode of their immensely popular 12" series. Laurence Guy delivers on his promise and then some. 
'Thinking of you' on the A is a fast-paced deephouse nugget that oozes class and panache. Melancholy piano lines set the mood, loose percussive rhythms set the pace, while Daniel Wang-esque vocal loops delicately weave in and out. 
Flip over for 'Hutch', a midtempo burner that builds on the sweetest of string, crisp hats, hints of acid and yearning vocal snips. One of those tracks that - when dropped at the right time - will have people hugging each other spontaneously on the dancefloor.
A stonecold future classic from the Rose Camp then, introducing an exceptional talent to their already impressive manifest.
