The dynamic duo CATJAM have been busy building a reputation as one of the most exciting acts to emerge on the vintage remix scene in recent times.  Known for their signature sound, Scallywag Swing, they have been bringing Garage, Bassline & Jungle to the Vintage Remix crowd.  Their bass-laden, fast paced DJ sets have been getting feet stomping and hips wiggling at a host of UK festivals, as well as putting in performances at some of the best Electro Swing and Vintage Remix events across the land.

Recently the pair have been back in the studio cooking up the finest garage beats and booty-shaking bass.

Illicit Licks shows us CATJAM's jungle roots.  With a broody 1920s brass intro complemented with some serious jungle choppage and deep basslines on the drop, this one is sure to be on heavy rotation on gramophones across the land.

From out of Birmingham UK, Heavy Beat Brass Band combine modern jazz, pop and funk with the heavy sounds of New Orleans Brass.  Made up of 8 young professional musicians personally mentored by Keith Frazier of New Orleans own Rebirth Brass Band, Heavy Beat Brass Band brings the authentic sounds of Mardis Gras and New Orleans to the UK.  

Equally at home on the stage or as a marching band, HBBB have been doing the rounds and have now established themselves as firm favourites on the UK scene.

Fresh from the UK's festival season, Heavy Beat Brass Band are delivering on point with this 2 track teaser from their forthcoming album “HBBB” which was conceived and written during the lockdowns in 2021.  The title track “#HBBB” kicks off the album with it's super catchy top line and intoxicating groove.  “Wasteman” tells the story of a stick up, with an ominous brass top line and vocal talents of SFZ.

And I'm back! This time with a shiny new swing-hop tune released by none other than the legendary Ragtime Records. 

This project came about when we were all locking down from that killer plague just a few years ago. With time on my hands, I learned how to use the MPC I'd been neglecting, listened to a lot of Jazz, and got quite into Film Noir, especially The Big Sleep. All of that boiled down to this release, especially Lemonade. Not that the vocal has anything to do with that, I've just always loved the lyric. 'Lemonade was a popular drink, and it still is' - wise words, if I've ever heard any.

The Fritz, beat maker extraordinaire and all round sample-based music enthusiast from Cornwall, returns to Ragtime Records with a Jazz Hop double A side, Lemonade, and Back in '89. 

Packed with vintage samples from London's 1920s swing scene and iconic Film Noir vocals, Lemonade is a glitchy lo-fi beat that's filled with rare Big Band loops that are blended with authentic Boom-Bap drums, MPC style. 

Next up is Back in '89, a swingy nod to the Golden Era of Hip Hop that's as atmospheric as it is catchy, with a stuttered sample, neck-breaking head-nod rhythm, and a warm low-end that's just right.

My Obsession

Breakbeat Paradise Recording is back to kick off another year with a solid funk release from the Greek funk band Nasa Funk who has cooked up the midtempo funky anthem Try &amp; Buy. The catchy original funk jam comes with a diverse package of remixes from Dal Platinum, TowlieDJ and Crash Party who has all taken their personal twist on the track.
Nasa Funk who consists of Alexandros Spanidis: drums / Costas Chasiotis: bass / Alexandros Papoulidis: guitar / Charis Kapetanakis: saxophone, keys / Georges Perin: vocals, talkbox released the epic Gonna Work It back in 2020 and are now ready to follow up on the success with this new EP release. The original cut starts out with lead vocalist George Perin showcasing some growling vocals before switching into his well-known falsetto voice while being backed up by a catchy funky backing track by the Nasa Funk band. Try &amp; Buy keeps us on our toes and takes us though a range of sections including the a solid saxophone solo ending with a talkbox vocal.
For the remix duties we looked for producers that could put different twists on the original while staying true to the funk vibes. Dal Platinum has done just that on his remix which combines some ghetto funk glitch sounds and some funky beats, which goes perfect with Nasa Funk&rsquo;s backing track.TowlieDJ has taken the vocals and flipped it into a true drum &lsquo;n&rsquo; bass anthem by bringing up the tempo and putting on some catchy basslines. To end things off Crash Party takes things back to the bigbeat era with some classic sirens and acid synth lines.
