Philadelphia-born Nerd Boy is much more than a rapper. 

Born Devyn Swain, the Cheyney University grad (who also earned a Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh) combines everything you want in a emcee with elements you would not expect: a wordsmith donning cutting edge fashion trends, wrapped in the body of a socially aware nerd. Nerdboy is a hybrid performer whose style is on the borderline of several different genres. His flow is poetic and delivery fires off like spoken word, while adding a touch of social consciousness usually reserved for college lecture halls. Primarily, Nerdboy draws inspiration from mainstream artists like Kanye West, Common, Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, and Wale. 

The origin of his poetic persona and moniker "Nerdboy" dates back to August 2004 at Cheyney, America's oldest historically black college or university. A timid young freshman, he courageously got on stage an performed an anthem for geeks, outcasts, dorks, poindexters, and of course nerds. Af​ter leading the crowd in the call-and-response song "Nerdboy Step," Cheyney students began referring to the geeky rapper as "Nerdboy." 

Since then Nerdboy has grown and developed tremendously to the point of turning professional, recording new and original material and performing at various venues in his current residency of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Recently the artist released his 3rd project, Prime Rhapsody, a funky and soulful collection of his insightful perspective and experiences.

Following the positive response to his first releases, Nerdboy continues developing as a great MC and growing his fan base with consistent strong music. With his lyrical depth, energy, and unique niche in the hip hop arena, he appears to be one to keep an eye on.
