I like the experimental touch.... nice ambience... :)

I made this for a class I took two years ago. The instructions for the piece were to compose something that represented our understanding of what John Cage meant by his metaphor of an empty glass... I still don't understand. 
I'm uploading it now because I'm procrastinating the work I actually need to do. Listen, enjoy, make Dee's procrastination worthwhile and recreate it if you wish.
Divide players into 4 groups. Players will play their instruments but not blow into them
Instrumentation:
12 woodwind/ brass instruments & their humans/ players
-One wine glass 75% full of water
-A bowl 
Score // Method: 
1) The piece begins with the glass player making the glass sing 
2) After 5 seconds of the glass sound group 1 begin to play
3) After 10 seconds of the glass sound group 2 begin
4) After 15 seconds of the glass sound group 3 begins
5) After 20 seconds of the glass sound group 4 begins
6) The glass player must empty some water from the glass into the bowl every 30 seconds
7) The piece ends 30 seconds after the glass has been emptied

I’ve been getting bogged down in my music writing of late, just constant writer’s block, so in an attempt to break the cycle I completed this in a single evening.
    The subject of this piece of music is the Fastnet Rock Lighthouse, located on a tiny island off the coast of Ireland. I have always had a fascination with lighthouses and I wish it were possible to spend a few days in the Fastnet Rock Lighthouse.
    The intro and outro is basically me attempting to simulate the sound of the ocean using my reverb and delay pedal, not sure how successful I was though!
    I should mention at this point MrBouzouki’s excellent track Lighthouse Keeper, since given the timing of when I wrote this song it was almost certainly an influence:

Music is an innately social activity, even music created in the interest of self-reflection and meditation. Early in 2020, Australia's response to the rapidly evolving Covid-19 pandemic had the music community close its doors not only to the outside world, but to each other. By order of a government directive, all social gatherings - including live music performance, group rehearsal and collaborative recording - were to cease around the country.

It was unclear at the start of the pandemic what role peer-to-peer interaction played in the lives of Australian composers. Many already worked from home, well versed in the art of creating spaces of solitude in cities, of building environments conducive to self-reflection, innovation and creativity.

But how much do we really depend upon our community? In a world where self-isolation is no longer a personal choice, will creativity flounder, or flourish?

The recordings in this series are a document of these months and these reflections. A meditation on the way we exist and create, both together and in solitude. As with any creative work, it is up to the listener to draw what they will from these works, and to carry this forward into the world they now inhabit.

New releases will be added ongoing 1 by 1, fortnightly from October. Depending on how long this V2 lockdown goes, we may add even more. Who knows, we may continue this until 2022, forever in hibernation and isolation, yet not isolated.
